|

Contract was for the end of Dec and the prior teacher was still in the apt. Hence, the moving date was pushed back a few days (which the school said counted as vacation) yet I was to begin school without going into the apartment and no other housing offered. Have never met anyone at the school nor have I been there yet.
Airfare paid by teacher and no monies paid by school todate. School states I must resign, originally stating in several letters it will give an LOR but GEPIK says since I did not actually work at the school an LOR is not allowed. Resignation but not firing and school will cancel visa.
If resigning I would have had to work there and entitled to monies I think..if being fired..same scenario...Yet, the school is offering nothing except starting at the school with a warning letter for my not starting on time OR resigning without an LOR..
concrete suggestions please as the school wishes to cancel the visa immediately without any pay. |

Arriving in Korea the end of Dec. the native teacher was still in the apt. I could not move in..the teacher left and I still did not have the keys. I never met anyone at the school nor did the school give me a place to live.
The start date was changing because the co-teacher said a new contract had to be signed because he had no copies with the principal's signature. Immigration and the consulate had the copies and therefore did not start. However, my contract was signed and stamped by the co-teacher only.
The school said because I did not start on the original contract date I was using my vacation time and when I came to school I would be issued a warning for being "tiresome". I have not received any money from the ps. The school co-teacher then said that neither of us broke the contract because the new one had to be redone for the principal's signature. He said the school would give a LOR many times in e-mails to me.
Now the school said I come to school with a warning ..consider vacation days spent...or resign without a LOR. GEPIK says I cannot have an LOR since I did not work yet. Dain Bae. So. those are the choices and the school will cancel the visa if I do not do one of the choices. No pay..but working there..technically since I used vacation time..
they will cancel the E-2 within the next day.
Hope this clarifies it better. |

Do you currently hold an E2 visa with that school? Not a contract, but an actual immigration authorization? |

Dang.. that's just plah shatty. So you were supposed to begin working but the foreign teacher was still there. You and your coteacher signed the contract but not the principal. THus you have no visa.
So now they want to screw you by taking away your vacation? If you do have a visa, go to immigration and get an exit order and go home and reapply to a different program or hagwon.

If its your 2nd E2, than get the exit order and find another job. Get the exit order, tell immigration you want your visa cancelled when you leave.
Go do the Japan thing and come back. EPIK is still hiring. |

OP, did the school submit a contract and paperwork to immigration and in turn you got a visa issuance number? And then you sent your visa to the Korean consulate, which issued you an E-2 visa? If so, the government has a copy of the original, legal contract on file. They can't just change it willy-nilly or fire you without a LOR. |

School refuses to fire
"Provincial office worker told me today that there is no other work which she can help. And i think it is the time to decide. The school can't wait for a long time because we have to decide to find another teacher or not. The school gave you two options. 1. working in xxx with a warning letter. 2. resignation without a release letter. I ask you to answer by tomorrow. " |

What the eff?
Something seems amiss here... am I the only one getting that feeling?
OP either you're leaving something out or you need to get the hell out of dodge fast. Whatever the cost. I've never heard of a PS acting this way...
Also, can't they not hire another FT until they've fired you? I'm pretty new to this, but someone's not telling the whole truth.... |

as you see by the short letter which was from the co-teacher.."handler"..a new person there this year...they cannot get another teacher unless I do one of the two options...
I even contacted the previous teacher in his home country yesterday and today..and he is so stunned...says the co-teacher has been writing to him a lot also.
nothing left out...I have only been in country this time for one month. |

So... if they can't hire another FT until you agree to something, then can't you hold them to the ropes for a LOR? And don't they have to cancel your visa anyway, one way or another, to get another FT? Which means you should be off the hook.... right?
Also, is there anyway you can communicate with your VP directly or something? My main co-teacher is also new to this Westerner wrangling business and often comes out with total nonsense that the VP dismisses immediately when he hears it, every single time. It's worth a shot, anyway. |
