VanIslander. There was one guy who was doing the CELTA on my course that an MA in Applied Linguistics. He was alright and it was nice to get someone with a bit more experience in the course.
Bassexpander. Nice to have you on board during these discussions when debating about the use of the CELTA.
Ofcourse, I agree with Bassexpander as the CELTA is only worthy to those who believe that it would benefit them. It is not for everyone and those people are weeded out during the initial CELTA Interview. |

Even at a 100,000 won per hour raise for having it, that will take you more than a few years to recoup the costs at a public school job.
erm...i think that with these figures it would take merely 24hours to recoup the costs. a weeks teaching perhaps? fool.
With the exception of Saudi (a restrictive hell-hole where you live in a compound), you'll be hard-pressed to find a place where you'll make more money than you would in Korea without a CELTA.
i'm curios to know bassexpander, you refer to Saudi Arabia a lot in this way. Have you ever actually been there? I haven't, therefore don't feel i could possibly comment. |

| the_general247, it's pretty obvious that Saudi Arabia is a place where liberty is in some ways restricted, to put it nicely. I've not been there; however, you've got to be careful in accepting the premises of other's arguments or red herrings as true when responding. |

| I had to read the first page to get back to the original point of this. The answer is yes, specifically two places offer CELTA, TTI and British Council. British Council probably has a better location, close to the city hall subway stn (20 min walk). TTI is next to Olympic Park. You can do an internet search and find info on each place, the cost is about 2.2 million won. I don't intend to get into any debates on the merits of the course, as this has been (exhaustively) covered. I have done the course, and the extra qualification got me a 200,000W per month raise at my next job. So it's paid for itself in my case. I found my course to be quite good and don't mind the money I spent. Whatever options you decide to pursue, just make sure the program is recognized. You'll find plenty of dodgy tesol places online just as you'll find plenty of dodgy hagwons. |
