I'm curious about how your husband, wife, or even your boyfriend, girlfriend or friend finds living in your country.

My wife LOVES Vancouver, BC. We just spent a month there and really wants to move there. It's a very expensive city! (It's been in the cards for a couple of years~ maybe next year - touch wood.) She's been to Canada 1/2 dozen times for a month or two here and there, Doublin for a summer and 27 counntries in total. Doesn't miss Seoul when she's there.

For a first timer, it may be quite difficult. Some of the colder places can be hard as well.

My wife loves Vancouver also. It's where we met 5 years ago before she dragged me out here. ^^

We hope to move back there in the next few years. It's the ideal city, halfway between both of our hometowns, full of job opportunities for both of us, and there's never any problem finding proper Korean food.

I'm bringing by girlfriend back to California with me this spring. I want her to get an impression of California before we make any final commitments. I tend to think that she'd do better in California than I do here in Busan. The quality of the environment is much better.

But then, I wonder. I'd hate to bring her home and then to have to hear her bitch and wine as much as I do! ESPECIALLY, if she extended her final syllables! "AmericaAaAaA sucksuUuUuU!"

I often hear the Koreans get bored in North America. And I wonder if N. American culture can be anywhere near as annoying as the crowds here.

No way! I don't think it's a one-for-one. That is, for every one thing that makes us uncomfortable here, there is a point which corresponds with their experience of N. America.

Granted, there are some damn annoying things that people do in N. America. But, I think the lighter population density dilutes the annoyances.

Yeah, I need to get home for a break. Even the good things are annoying me right now.

Biggest thing for my wife when we moved back to the States was the lack of public transportation.

She had never driven before moving to the States and being dependent on someone else driving left her feeling a little isolated until she got her license.

I'll leave out the little peeves that can be attributed to general culture shock. The only recurring annoyance that sticks out in my mind that she had was the medical service.

The quality of the service wasn't the problem. She was extremely bothered when the doctor would diagnose something as "normal." Koreans like to have some kind of reason for being sick it seems, this probably is an explanation for mysteries such as "fan death." Natural causes isn't an acceptable explanation, there has to be a reason.

She`s going to need a car or lessons and something to do. Staying at home all day until you come home from work is probably going to drive her up the walls.

Yeah, good advice. We're planning a career path for her.

For this first trip, we'll just be traveling around and enjoying. Then, back to Kmart *sparkling* for another contract.

You see? If she talked s#!t like I do, oh man!

If you lived in NYC or another city with a decent transportation system then it should be okay. Smalltown living where she`s the only Korean/trapped at your parents home/yourhome all day then you could hear bitching

Also, give her some time. There`s bound to be initial bitchiness because of the time difference and minor annoyances. If she becomes a super bitch then yeah you`re in trouble and doomed to a Kmart existence.

My husband would never, ever, moved back to my hometown and has told me so. 6,000 population, few jobs, and rednecks in northern Oklahoma just won't cut it for my Korean boy. Not to mention he absolutely hates fried okra. He'd never be welcomed. Wink

I never found a decent Korean restaurant in Vancouver.

My wife thought BC was beautiful (especially, Kelowna), but she really did not enjoy living there. I think the bureaucracy really got to her, not to mention the cold, and the cost floored her. Ultimately, like myself, she found living in Britain to be far more enjoyable than Canada.

Personally, we just came back from a month in BC and though it is beautiful, I just don't think I ever want to live there again.

My husband loves Calgary and can't wait to immigrate. He likes the fresh breeze, space, friendly people, relaxed attitudes and the weed. Razz

My girlfriend rightfully cannot stand the Carolinas and neither can I. They are dull, lacking in character, and a cesspool of human garbage. The food is crap and the people are fat. The mountains are too small and the beach has no waves. The weather is humid and sticky in summer and there are a lot of insects and other pests.

That said, she and I both like the barbecue and the grocery stores have great prices. Who can like a place where the only things to do for fun are go shopping or go to the movies and have to drive miles to get there? Oh, you can tailgate with fat rednecks at sports games, but that's lousy and the epitome of what all people can't stand about American overconsumerism.

You may want to visit California AFTER the $42 billion dollars budget cuts are in place to see if that place is still livable. Laughing
