Does anyone know how to do this without offending friends and keeping all the pictures you like?

I was on their the other day and I noticed an application notification where so called friends back home, were not being so friendly. They were making some pretty nasty comments about me. I'm heading back in two weeks so I'm worried about seeing them again. I don't know what I'll be going back too.
I've been thinking of cancelling Facebook about for a while now.

Any ideas? I do feel abit over reliant on facebook now- plus it just drains your time.

I just had a look at this option- I am over reliant on Facebook! I have all my university mates, seperate groups of friends and a network of friends in Seoul on Facebook. I just hate being this exposed to abuse.

Is it possible to hide your profile so some people think you have quit? I need to box clever here. Avoid searches etc..

go to the profile of the person/people who are being jerks and click on 'remove this person from friends' or whatever it says. the person won't be notified so they'd have to notice on their own.

if people are trash talking or whatever, you really shouldn't care how their feelings will be affected if you end it with them on facebook. just delete them, forget about them, and ignore any drama they start when you go home.

Yeah, I'd say just delete the people causing the trouble - it's not worth keeping people around if they're bringing you down, and if they really want to keep in touch after you delete them, they can make the effort.

Moving to another country is a great excuse to purge your friends list.

ok so you dont want to delete them because you might run into them back home and you don't want them to know you deleted them..

so what you can do is this...

first of all you cant stop them from trash talking to you..

but you can keep them out of your page and give them limited access to your page..
under settings, privacy you can limit access to other people..
so they will only see what you want them to see...

like if you dont want people seeing your news feeds, photos, profile, what ever.. you can block them here.. they wont really know that you have done that... becuase they still have access to your page, but what they see if limited, now they might think you have blocked them... but they can't know for sure..

if they ever asked you.. "hey why cant I see your news etc.."
you can just reply ohh I don't know!" I dont really use facebook anymore..

Thanks for the help Itaewonguy just spend a few hours sorting this out..

I've ramped up my security and kept access for idiots to a minimum. I noticed you can choose to hear less about what some tw*t is doing each second of the day. Useful.. 'cos I know a few.

I've basically buried myself on facebook so I can't be found through searches. If I chose to add someone I can find them. I hated getting requests from nosey little fu*kers looking for a bit of gossip/people I dislike but felt obliged to add.

I've also restricted info for peeps outside of the Korea network and selected good friends I trust.

I ammended the applications data share option. Facebook automatically takes any info you put on the site and uses it. Shocked An application my friend's added asked probing questions about me-taking data from my site. Now, I like a laugh and a joke but I just felt this was just too much. You need to be so careful with facebook I think if I could choose again it would've been a -No.

Anyhow still on it for the time being. Thanks again- I'll add you. Very Happy

Don't omit to send the facebook admins an email telling them to delete all records of your account and all your personal information. Otherwise they'll retain that stuff and probably sell it to advertising companies (if they haven't already).

I noticed there are a couple weird applications on facebook...one which was GOSSIP and you can gossip about your friends behind their back.

There was another one similar. I've been noticing a couple, and, yeah, they are a bit disturbing.

I wonder if it was one of those applications.

It was called "Friend Facts" or something like that. You can disable the applications from accessing information about you- worth doing if you ask me. Some people are shits.
