All he basically says in this is, 'I like Texas so therefore they are great'. I don't know if they are genuine or not.

I'd assume that Texas is always a genuine contender or at least most years. I'm not sure what the point is.

The first bold statement..................................um........................Texas Longhorn football IS GREAT.

The top three teams with the highest win percentage in the nation......

(in no particular order)

Notre Dame
Texas
Michigan

Can't see the point, or just adding disratcint to the facts? Speaking of, it is a fact the SEC was not exactly a competetive conference this season. But, I am not taking credit away from Florida. Urban Myer is a great coach..........a GREAT coach and he has done a hell of a job.

Oklahoma IS a pretending contender.
Texas IS a contender and was robbed of the Big 12 title game and national championship. They beat USC a couple of years ago and I feel they could have beaten Florida.............or could have made a game of it, anyway.
Despit the fact Texas won in the last minute...........thats what GREAT teams do.........THEY WIN when THE PRESSURE IS ON THEM.

All this hubbub about the Big 12 vs SEC does not really matter. What matters is....................is that..........

Defense DOES win championships.

BUT.......a TRULY great offense makes the right plays at the right time....with the right player(s).

Tebow is coming back next year.
Bradford is comin back next year.
McCoy is cominb back next year.
Sanchez (fucking *beep*) has chosen to skip graduation.

It will be interesting.

Too late in that I read your unedited version of the post. I apparently hit the quote function after it had been edited. Whatever, I don't care. I don't take any of this personally. Moving on...

Is it possible in your opinion that the offensive capabilities needed to win championship games isn't reflected in total offense rankings? Therefore teams with championship offenses are under rated by total offense. What do you think of that idea?

I think the stats need to be analyzed very carefully before any conclusion can be drawn. This particular year, with 3 Heisman candidates from the same division of a single conference, was a big red flag, statistically speaking, that the defenses in that division were not up to snuff. Obviously, I am talking about the Big 12 South this year.

As far as championship offenses go...there is a very good article by the guy formerly known as the Sunday Morning Quarterback, in which he found the most important statistical qualities of championship football teams to be run defense, pass defense, and offensive pass efficiency.

The guy who doesn't follow sports, but you do follow internet arguments on them. Which you furthermore do not understand. Good for you.

I enjoyed the style of argumentation. I don't think I've ever watched a football game from start to end.

Oh, ok. Fair enough. do you think I have a point or am I way off. It do tend to get into theory too much and his stats are compelling, even if i think the sample size is small/stats don't tell the full story.

Oh, I have no idea either way.

That is interesting. When I first got into college football I read his blog from the very beginning. Very informative. Obviously I have to look at it again and get a recap. I love his stuff over at yahoo also.

Interestingly Florida are 15, 20, 3 in those categories whilst Oklahoma are 20,99 and 1. That would give them the edge.

Sometimes(ie all the time) I hit reply to quickly and I am obstinate as f*ck but this discussion has been interesting for me. Good talk.

I agree on the big XII, that was actually what I was originally commenting on in this thread. Although if Oklahoma convert a few third downs they might have won I suppose, the beauty of the game:)

Berry is an absolute monster and you have a great recruiting team going on there. Especially that dude who used to be at ole miss, orgeron..

I don't really have a team. I'm Irish and have followed the game only for 3 years. It's a beautiful, beautiful game at pro and college level although college is more fun in a way. I tend to root for the underdog. At the minute I'm keeping an eye on Miss State to see if Mullen can turn it around.

You don't think Bradford made a mistake? That is a lot of money and he loses all his line..

Are you in Texas? Did you see that guy Russel Shephed play who is going to LSU. He looks like Percy Harvin playing QB.

Nope.......I don't think Bradord, or the other two, made a mistake.

There is something to be said for ........money vs integrity/education...

By the way.......I did not say I was IN Texas.

Who cares what single player LSU has coming? Texas has Colt McCoy coming back and that has far much leverage then some scrub out of high school

I'm a Tennessee fan, but I'm expecting a rerun of the 2008 quarterback problems. Seeing a clip of Kiffin trying for a 76 yard field goal when he was with the Raiders doesn't inspire much confidence, not that Phat Phil & Co. were geniuses.

Well he will live or die by the talent coming in and has a reputation as a good recruiter. That was from USC though and I'm skeptical of how hard it to recruit for them. Also the talk of a pro style offense has me worried. They don't tend to work very well for college.

I think the 76 yard field goal was more of an F U to Al Davis than a serious indication of his coaching ability.

I also think getting fired by Al Davis may be a sign that he is a good coach. (Think Shanahan.)

More importantly, they've put together a monster staff. Monte Kiffin as defensive coordinator absolutely blows my mind. Ed Orgeron? The guy who recruited the Ole Miss team that beat Florida and Texas Tech? Amazing. They got a very highly regarded S&C coach as well, which should remedy the number one problem of the team, the offensive line's horrendous performance (masked the previous year by Eric Ainge's ability to get rid of the ball in about a millisecond.)

I don't know if next year will show an improvement in the win column, but I don't see how they could *look* any worse than this year.
