Nothing really surprising here. Remember, the revolution needs an enemy.

Chavez's little petro-dump is in trouble too.

But there is. I thought that H. Chavez and his kind were rational actors who merely objected to the W. Bush administration and its foreign policies. I thought that antiAmericanism began and ended with W. Bush. Elect B. Obama and it will stop, some said on this messageboard, in fact. "The rest of the world" loved W. Clinton and it will love Obama even more, remember?

Just what is going on here?

I sure didn't think that. Though hopefully some of those naive leftist types that did will be promptly mugged by reality.

I know. But your response made a nice pretext for me to jump in and state my point.

Meanwhile, el presidente is setting himself up through 2018...

Quote:
CARACAS, Venezuela -- The Venezuelan National Assembly has approved a referendum on a constitutional amendment that would allow President Hugo Chavez to run for a third consecutive six-year term in 2012...

Yuck. I'd really like him to just go away.

I'm a little happier to see Bush leave. Of course Chavez is not doing himself any favours here. It would be nice for him to start off with a bit of diplomacy eh?

This is the naivete I'm talking of.

Chavez does not want "good" or diplomatically normal relations with the US. He needs the Great Satan as the Vader to his Yoda. He is saving his country from the evil gringo bastards. If the evil gringo bastards turn out to be harmless, what the hell use to his country is he?
