After getting LASEK and now I can see everything. I have decided to take my attempts at self improvment one more notch and saving my money to get certification and become a 'real' teacher.
Now the PGCE in the UK costs around 3,415 pounds - but I have no desire to return to the UK - I have had enough of the place. Australia and New Zealand look good options but getting the General Diploma in Teaching quite expensive though do-able if I stay here in Korea for about 3-4 years.
Can anyone tell me about the United States or South Africa in regards price and eligibility?
I have heard Canada is a dead loss as the courses are over-subscribed as it is! If anyone has any information then I would be grateful!  |

Certification in ONtario cost me 5000 and was one year in duration. If I could trade it for a steak and a case of Canadian, I would do it.
The South Korean spitting culture is disgusting. |

Uh, where did that delightfully random non-sequitur come from?
I would not recommend getting a teacher certificate--they don't offer much of a pay increase, and most countries don't recognize certs from other countries (in the U.S., few states recognize certs from other states). A master's would get you a higher salary in TEFL, but not much; still, I enjoyed doing my master's and would do it again if I could (although I had a scholarship--I don't know if I'd've liked it as much if I were footing the bill). |

A cert can lead to a stable job which is recession proof. It is a credential of a skill, and implies skills which are transferable. Moreover, you can use it to get into international schools, as well as public and private schools at home.
It's not a stupid choice.
Take the job advice with a grain of salt here. Some just love teaching in a public school; others loathe it. |

I'll agree with "Omkara" on this one. Unfortunately, I'm too old (at 59 and still owing on my student loan for a bachelor's degree) to serious entertain the idea of getting certified as a teacher (though my getting certified as a psycho might be doable at this stage )  |

Last time I looked they didn't use won in Ontario, but the won is not so far behind the Canadian dollar. It would be more for an international student and as you said before not easy to get in.
I am thinking of Australia as a good place to do the year. Nice weather and believe me after studying in both countries Aus would be much easier than Canada. |

After looking around - I'm plumping for either Australia or New Zealand - it is going to cost a fair bit but a year in Australia sounds too good an opportunity to miss - it will be for 3-4 years from now - so back to the grindstone of Korea and save the wonga up!  |
