Policeman Caught Taking Bribes From Pimps

By Bae Ji-sook
Staff Reporter

The Seoul Northern District Court Sunday arrested a 41-year-old police officer for selling prostitution crackdown schedules to pimps, confirming that collusive ties between police and brothel owners continue here.

According to police, an unidentified officer received one million won from Bae, a brothel owner in the red-light district of Jangan-dong, eastern Seoul, on three occasions in 2006.

He has also received four million won from a man identified as Lee, who ran an illegal gambling room in the same region.

Both owners hid suspect items ahead of police raids and even managed to install fake hard discs on computers to confuse investigators, police said.

An investigation is underway to see whether other police officers have similar collusive ties.

The investigation was launched in response to brothel owners' allegations last September that they had given bribes to many police officers. The pimps threatened to make public a list of corrupt officers.

Doesn't take much to confuse the investigators.

It wasn't a bribe, it was a loan!

I think the best part of this article is the writer's email address. I wonder if the cop was receiving bjs as well! Laughing

Wow, 1 million won is like $750. A whole cop for $750 and a free one.

That's a pretty cheap bribe--or was it a black market industry bailout?
