|

Are polo shirts, such as the red one Dave wears in his picture above, acceptable teaching attire for public schools? If so, should I (U.S. style) still wear a suit to the interview?
Thanks! |

Definitely wear a suit early on. Once your novelty wears off, a polo shirt will be more than acceptable. |

In the summer months, polo shirts are acceptable and much needed.
Always dress professionally and conservatively when going for an interview.
Those who dress in polo shirts for interviews, most likely do not get the job. |

Wear a suit for the interview....as for on the job depends...In elementary they could care less...I dress nice sometimes....then again some teachers show up in a sweatshirt from time to time. |

A related question: what's the dress like at a Kind/Elem Hagwon in Gangnam?
Could I get away with polo's and jeans? |

you might 'get away' with a t-shirt, shorts and a lollipop (especially if you're handsome)
but don't resent the locals for living their values: one's manner of dress, like one's conduct, is a factor in the level of respect one gets in Korea
rightly or wrongly, it's a cultural thing
knowing that, do whatever |

I planned to show up in slacks and a tie for the first week or so, until I felt out what was normal. I just didn't know if a suit was expected.
I don't even own a suit, lol. |

In my experience, usually when you're teaching kindergarten, anything is acceptable. This is because when you teach the little ones, you get pretty dirty.
As for E/M/HS hagwons, it depends entirely on the school. |

My hagwon doesn't like for us to dress up. The children would feel more uncomfortable. Shorts and a t-shirt ... jeans .... pjs ... whatever. |
