Maybe it's just that when I have the chance to indulge in good western food I eat so much of it that it's a matter of quantity rather than content, but it does seem that when my diet is mostly Korean food I almost never get the farts. I dont' eat kimchi, btw.

I think a lot of it has to do with how the food breaks down. Korean food is eaten in small bites with chopsticks, whereas western food is often wolfed down in big bites with the hands.

Uh...

You've clearly never sat at the PE teacher table at my school during lunch.

Those little oranges give me tons of gas if I eat more than 1.

Almost as bad as those yummy British crackers we can buy at Costco. I forgot the name, but it starts with a "C". THOSE absolutely kill me (and anyone else around me).

Might well be a lack of cheese. You may be lactose intolerant

I've been startled out of a dead sleep here a few times because I've had such violent gas. At first I didn't know what had happened and I kinda jumped up and checked my door and my window beause I thought someone was trying to break in.

And yes I eat kimchi but not the quality stuff from Lotte Mart, oh no, only the rancid stuff from my local Kimbop restaurant. Knowing full well it might wake me up in the middle of the night in a panic all confused about what just happened. Very Happy

Au contraire, I've had the most consistent bowel movements in my life since I landed on the ROK. Very impressive consistency and good volume, almost always sinking, rarely floating. I think it's the freshness and quality of food I've been experiencing on the farm. Also there's the consistency of the product and lack of availability of fast food (four bakeries and not one fast food place, WTF??).

But yeah, I've been pretty regular.

thanks for the above reply....alittle TMI. Anyways, yes, I do notice I have less bloating and gas on Korean food. When I do notice bloating, it's because I've eaten some sort of processed food. Korean food is healthier and I find that I have less tolerance for processed foods.

I'm definitely not lactose intolerant but you're right; it could be a lack of cheese. I just bought a big block of real cheese so we'll see if the gradual consumption of that has any effect.

To the OP:

No, but it does give me less appetite.

Fascinating thread topic, by the way.
