So lush, are you saying this is YOUR experience or that of all expats working for Korean companies? |
IGO! Reading comprehension seems to be a bit lacking here. Go reread the first few lines of my post. |

All I gotta say is if I was screwed over by my company that way...I wouldn't quit, oh no, I would screw with them and make them fire me.
Things that come to mind are putting sugar in the bosses gas tank.
Stealing work and doing it
OR I would bring in my laptop and play on the net all day, not caring I was a desk jockey. Eventually they would fire me. Or I would find a job on the net, and quit
Desk Jockey is a "George" job in Seinfeld. It is everyone's dream job. Getting paid to do nothing haha. |

Your update truly pissed me off. I can't believe how some people an treat others so inhumanely like that at the office. A COLORING BOOK? Man, he should have jumped ship the moment they said he couldn't go to a family member's funeral! |

Yes- I was shocked and royally pissed when I was finally told the whole reason he quit. I am starting to get cynical about some people that work here; they seem genuinely interested in harming others for fun. The icing on the cake was that they made it so Alex had to choose to stay at work. They didnt, per se, tell him he couldnt go, just that if he went then that would prove he didnt take his job seriously and or have any loyalty. They really hyped how important it was that this document be translated that day, and how he hasnt had a real assignment in 2 weeks. He honestly thought he was getting back into the game. He had all his dictionaries back out, his computer was on, and he had just put the picture of his wife back (he took it off a week ago and put most of his stuff in a box) on his desk, in preparation of resuming work. Additionally he was being really nice to everyone that morning (remember, his Aunt died the day before, he was trying to make an impression here) and generally being old Alex again. There is another foreigner in a different division here, who knows Alex as well. We are going to his house tonight to take him and his wife out to dinner with our goddamn expense account cards. Huh- no expense will be spared tonight.
I have worked with some horrible people before, but this, this is really low. |

| Sorry, I don't know if you addressed this before or not, but is this a really typical act toward a desk jockey? What I mean have you thought about working in some place that is much more humane? I would personally hate myself for being associated with that company. Good for you, taking him out on the company bill. |

| What's almost as bad (but no has addressed yet) is the apparent reason for his being made a desk cowboy in the first place- defending himself against office gossip (or, depending on your viewpoint, making someone else of the 'weaker and fairer sex' publically lose 'kibun' or composure). What a sad work environment that place must be. |
