Anyone else notice this?

We get the 26th and 27th off this month for the Lunar New Year holidays.
After that, Korea will only have 2 more National Holidays for the remainder of the year!!

That means, no 14 paid National Holidays this year for us, which we usually had throughout the past 4 years or so.

First, the crappy exchange rates and salaries. Now, more work and less days off! Damn, it's getting tougher and tougher here.

I wonder what those hagwon contracts will now say regarding holidays.

Mine says nothing. My boss doesn't get the day off, why should I?

Did you make a commitment to a job, or just to a vacation?

at least Christmas and New Year's Day each fall on a Friday in 2009, ensuring two 3-day weekends! ... in 2010 they each fall on a weekend!!! Confused

and also in 2010 two of the three Asian New Year days off are on the weekend Confused

the only bright spot is that Chuseok in '10 is on Tues-Wed-Thurs, so I'll make *beep* sure I don't sign any contract before I get in writing (and by verbal assent, which I'll remind them of) the Monday and Friday off of that week for a 9-day break!

Crap, I'm considering a job that has Fridays off so I would end up with NO extra holidays. Guess I couldn't complain too much if I take that job anyway.

Lots of Koreans work on Saturdays...four of those public holidays fall on a Saturday. And if I remember rightly that was under pressure from business associations.

a friend of mine who worked in japan for many years said that when the holidays fell on weekends there they got the Monday off. No chance of that happening here i guess...

Who Roh caved into and chose the only two holidays that couldn't be shared by North Korea. Interesting isn't it. Roh sure wasn't dumb, but he was a sneaky SOB.

This is Korea's strategy against the global economic depression. The top Korean management had a meeting with the Government and they decided the best way to improve the economy would be working harder and longer than before.

Korea; the land of working long hours and the logical decision making.

Not all of us work regular weekends, so we get a bunch of the holidays off.

Using mainly lunar based holidays allows the holidays to rotate. Some years are better than others. Thats how the dice roll in Korea.
