Her question about, 'do you like it if you get on the bus and there's only black people'? How the heck is that relevant to the assertion that Koreans are racist?
Also, "it's better that the Korean men cheat on their wives than divorce". What a sad argument. That's the attitude here. It's all about money and 'face'. If people divorce they have problems with those two things. The woman will have no money and nobody will want to marry her if she's got children (hence the orphanages - this has been explained to me several times by Koreans). If the man gets the children, no woman wil want to marry him.
Korean men suck. They boss women around, they go to work and think they're heroes because they bring in the bacon, they go to Room Salons because it's 'required'.
The faster women here start earning their own money and wising up to these men the better. I can't stand them. They treat women like children. It makes me sick.
But your girlfriend may be right - maybe it is better for them to not get divorced. If they don't get divorced and live unhappily with a cheating husband who has no time for her, at least she can have enough money to buy things for herself and save face in society. In that way it may be better.
Having said that I can't stand Korean men, I'll admit there are some nice ones. But generally they still have that 'treat women like children' attitude. |

Of course not. But we are talking about Koreans that visit this board.

a. it's not a rock, it's a conglomorate of many elements most of which are in a molten viscous fluid.
b. it's an oblong spheroid that is wider in the middle, flat in some parts, convex in others, but mostly the surface is concave.
and c. I'm sitting in a leather chair, not standing on a rock.
I'm sorry that a small minority of you lack the ability to comprehend my answers. It'd be nice if you 'native' speakers knew more english. But if you want to pay me 50,000 won per hour, I'd be happy to enlighten you.
But here's a free lesson, re-read the selection, look up the definitions of any words you don't understand, go buy a book of practical english phrases, and then try to form inferences that are supported by details in the material.
Good luck. |

sad to say, but that's quite true. most foreigners i've met in korea are actually very poor speakers in terms of proper grammar and spelling (including myself). it's a shame they hire us to teach their kids!

How do you even know if someone is Korean or not? Gyopo or Westerner? Black or white? I'm sure you know every person on this board so it's obvious to you, but it isn't to me. What is your point?

That's because many English teachers are only college graduates and have no right to even be in a classroom in North America. Maybe if the governments had a standard of selectively recruiting, say English majors or (master's) degrees in education, the natives might actually learn something correctly the first time around. Maybe not. |

Yes, I can see how your nitpicks managed to completely deflate my argument. To refresh your memory, there are sometimes "no middle ground" type of responses for certain questions. Look up the "golden mean" fallacy since you seem so smug.

The reason why I know that those individuals were Korean is because they identified themselves as such and I took them at their word. I don't have the time, resources, nor patience to conduct a background check on people that post.
Besides, the original person said something to the effect of "wouldn't it be nice if more Koreans posted here" to which I replied, "sure, but those that did weren't able to argue well and got all emotional." I realize those aren't my exact words but I'm sure you can understand the intent.
As well, why do you do the oh so clever trick of replacing "Korean" with "Westerners"? Boy, you sure are clever. The original question is not about Westerners visiting the board, but Koreans.
I think you are trying to turn this into a race issue. Perhaps you should remove that chip off your shoulder.

I forgot to address this point earlier. Korea does not need people with a Master's degree teaching at a hagwon. What they need are, for lack of a better term, technicians armed with a 4 year degree plus a CELTA or something like that.
Really, when you look at the pay scales in job ads, the difference between a Masters and a BA is insignificant. All that is going on is that the minimum bar is being raised.
You really seem to have an axe to grind here - especially with you last little "maybe not" comment. Listen, the whole ESL problems cannot be laid at the feet of the evil foreigner. Get that through your head.
You don't want to learn English? That's fine with me. |

Yes I understand your intent well. It's very clear that you wish more Koreans posted here, but you actually do not, because they get emotional. This is because they can't argue well which you actually seem to think "they" are all good for. What does a Korean posting here and being able to argue well have to do with one another? Are you looking for Koreans to argue with? Or are you trying to point out that all Koreans are emotional? Or do you feel superior to Koreans because you can argue "your way out of a paper bag"? So, once again, I ask you, What is your point?
I am not not trying to turn this into a race issue. Rather, you already have whether you realize it or not. |

I was writing this in the point of view of the recruiters, not teachers. The whole point of my post was, maybe if standards for teachers of English were raised a bit higher, we'd have fewer inept teachers in the workplace. Understand now? Higher standards = more qualified teachers = more job opportunites = higher pay = higher job security. Shall I go on?
I have no idea what your response means. Nor, do I really care. Because to me, it is obvious that personal attacks is the only thing you're good at, not making points. It makes you feel good to put someone down, doesn't it? Put them in their place. You go, boy!
If I wanted to learn English, it sure wouldn't be from you. |
