Well I tried again. Managed to get my beer into the fermentation bucket this time. Hoping when I get home from work tonight there will be some bubbling action going on.

I need to track down a capper ASAP so that I can be ready to bottle this business in 2 weeks.

You can always use plastic bottles. But they have to be carbonation-ready bottles. If you're in a pinch, you could buy 21 liters of carbonated Makkoli and empty them out Smile I've done that before, it works, and it's roughly 21,000 won.

Also, I'm learning not to give bottles away in Korea. They're a bit more of a pain in the ass to replace.

BUGGER! I mucked it up! All that time and effort for nothing! :anger: My virgin brew turned out to be unpotable. What did I do wrong?

There were two main flaws; I know what went wrong with the first one, but the second is a mystery.
  1. The flavour of hops was so strong as to block out any other taste. No malt, no nothing. I added hops for a bit of bitterness, but ended up boiling them in the mix for way too long.
  2. No carbonation whatsoever. None. Not a bubble in sight after two weeks in the bottle. Why the hell not?!

I'm really disappointed at this. I never expected my first brew to be overly delicious, but I did think it would be drinkable.

Damn!

This brewing your own beer stuff seems like a shat load of work for what's usually undrinkable swill.

It's easier to pony up the cash and buy some good imports.Leave brewing beer to the experts. They've been doing it for hundreds of years in many cases.

Might as well just give up on cooking and just order in every night as well, what?

Cooking is a good analogy here because basically that's exactly what brewing is. If you enjoy cooking a stellar meal that requires careful planning and execution, you'll most likely enjoy brewing.

What do you mean "usually"? I've been brewing for about 4.5 months, made about 6 batches; only one's been weird, and only one has been utterly undrinkable.

As far as buying imports...you go ahead and do that. Go ahead and contribute to the InBev monopoly in this country (you do realize that there's only one company exporting to Korea really, don't you?); go ahead and pay 100% taxes on a $2 beer.

One thing I find suspicious is that when I finished the secondary fermentation went to bottle my brew, the beer was very clear.

Now, as I've mentioned in previous posts, I was aiming for a nice, clear lager so, at the time, I thought this was a good thing. But did I inadvertantly clear my beer of all the things the priming sugar needed to carbonate?

Why thank you, jdog2050. Does it matter if I'm not in Korea?
