I've been here for only a couple of months, so I'm not sure.
I tend to buy lots of fruits and vegies and I think it's starting to add up. factor in the gas usage
should i just go to lotteria from now on? |

I eat lots of veggies, which aren't too pricey, but fruits are very expensive (it'd be nice if the FTA was approved).
I eat a lot of lean protein (for weightlifting) and frozen squid and egg whites are good, cheap sources. Milk is expensive, chicken breast and really lean pork aren't too bad.
You could probably live off gimbap and stuff like that, and it would be cheaper. I imagine the cheapest would be to eat a lot of white rice at home with eggs and some veggies. It wouldn't be that healthy, but just like back home, eating well costs more. Eating Korean (non-western) fast food is very cheap. |

| It depends. I find it's more expensive for me to eat in because I mostly cook things with more expensive, western ingredients. You can buy an entire meal eating out for less than the cost of 250g of cheese. I do make a nice vegetarian curry that's very cheap since I use local vegetables and such. |

I shop at a farmers market, buy my meat at the local butchers.
It's 6 and two threes for me eating in or out.
Probably costs a little less eating in. I'm not into going out to eat korean one bowl food all the time though. |

I don't think there's too much difference in it. Maybe it's a little cheaper to eat at home but it's also dirt cheap to eat out every day. I generally eat kimbaps for breakfast and have something in the evening in the little kimbap chunguk restaurants. Nice healthy food and plenty of variety. Eat out a few times a week at better restaurants.
I'm always bemused by foreigners going on about how kimbap, bibimbap etc isn't that healthy beacuse of all the rice - it sure is a lot healthier than a lot of the stuff we eat back home |

underwaterbob, whenever I see your avatar I think of the joker mixed with Gord Downie, but I digress.
Eat out! It is much cheaper, as long as you are eating Korean. |

| I find it's more expensive because it's generally cheaper to buy things like onions, fruit etc. in bulk. However, I only cook for myself and often ingredients go to waste. |

yes, actually, it IS the question - because in the long run - eating fast food will prove much more expensive in terms of your health, quality of life, and general sense of well being!

Well he asked if eating out was more expensive. Who considers going to Lotteria eating out? There's plenty of good healthy Korean food to be had. Just stay away from some of the high sodium/salt dishes and your good to go. preferably find a friend and eat with them. |

According to my local 약사님, this excludes every tang and chiggae on the menu. Cheaper to eat at home? Sure it is. Make yourself a healthy salad. Grab a meat cross-reference from one of the denizens of this board (Thanks, Bangbayed! Not a week goes by that I don't use your shit) and use it to get the cheaper cuts of meat from your butcher. He can order whatever you need.
I have a massive pork shoulder in a brine right now. I'll pull it out tomorrow morning, dry it out, and make a ridiculously good pulled pork on Saturday.
Buy in bulk. Cook in bulk. Freeze. |

O.P.,
It all depends on what you want to eat when you go out. If you want to stick tot he standard Korean dishes, then it can be cheaper. But, there is a chance you will get tired of it. Athough, Galbi, Sam Gyup Sal and other grilled meats are somewhat cheaper then eating at home. But, if you are alone, you run the risk of being turned away.
You have to determine what you like to eat, what you need to eat and what you are good at. Coolking at home can turn into a great hobby. Buy some good cook books with great recipies, you run the risk of not wanting to eat out, for the most part.
When you can cook something YOUR way, the RIGHT way..........it is hard to find anything better.

| I'd like to know of some recipes for simple Korean dishes I can make at home. I know 볶음밥 and some others, but I rarely spend enough time researching what things I can make at home on a low budget. |
