I'm moving to Seosan-Shi near the end of next month. I was wondering if anyone is currently living there or has been there? What's it like?
Thanks,
Errol |

In my opinion, Seosan is a cesspool. Best advice - go to Seoul every weekend for a good time. Lived there for 1 year and was happy to leave.
If you are going to work at Yeoligy English School, run away as far as you can and don't look back. |

Thanks for your opinion. I won't be working at Yeoligy English School. Are there bars, restaurants and shopping malls in Seosan-Shi?
Thanks, |

There is a Lottemart there. I don't know about restaurants and bars though. I think there is a Lotteria and tons of Korean restaurants. I did go to an excellent sushi restaurant once there. There's a nice old market in the centre of town. It's basically your typical Korean large town. You have the usual name brand shops in the centre of town by the bus terminal. I don't livein Seosan so I can't tell you what the foreigner scene is like there.
Good luck with your move there. |

There's a Pizza Hut. There are no malls, only Lotte Mart.

It changes every year because the majority of people only stay a year.
Are you going to be in Seosan the city or just Seosan the area? The city is tolerable, the area not so much. |

I'm living and working there...and I like it. Then again I've only been there for a couple of months, so take that for what it's worth. |

I thought it was OK but you'll be happy to see Seoul a few times a month.
nice enough people I thought --some places to go, some a drive away, was an unofficial expat bar but not too many expats really. |

I'm long gone from Korea(and Seosan) but someone tipped me off about this topic so I'll chime in.
The other posters are right-Seosan is basically a cesspool. I guess if you were really serious about saving money/learning Korean then I guess Seosan would be OK. But the saving money part goes out the window as you soon discover that a couple weekends a month the 90-minute bus ride to Seoul is a necessity, not a luxury...if you value your sanity, that is.
There's a Lotte, and Pizza Hut and Domino's for "fine dining". I heard that since I left a movie theatre has been built. There was bar called "519" or some damned thing that had the odd Westerner stumble into. That's about it - enjoy your year! |

I'll be heading into Seosan this weekend to get out of the country. Is this still the "westerner" bar? Any other fun night life suggestions in Seosan? |

Wow. A thread from the grave.
Sorry, mate...haven't been in Seosan for a half-dozen years but...
if you're going to Seosan to "get out of the country", all I can say is...man, you must be stuck in some sad village situation! |

The bar is called 501 and just across the street is another bar called RnB Bar. They are the two main hangouts. |
