| It depends on whether it's elementary or middle / high school. An elementary HR teacher teaches most subjects and is with the kids most of the day. A middle or high school homeroom teacher meets the class at the beginning and end of day and is responsible for the kids' attendance, any parental concerns, students' study schedules, cleaning, and discipline of their students to a much greater extent than in America. In both cases they have the Korean equivalent of in locus parentis authority over students and kind of function like a third parent. |
