Does anyone know any online forums about Thailand (especially the North), that don't have a prostitution focus?

Also, I'm going to try and stay there for a year without any income. Tips on that? I'll be boxing every day except Sundays probably, so could only pick up a part time job at the most, if it's even worth it. |

				| http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/ is the first one that comes to mind. Can't help with the second part, but I've heard stories of people who've done it. Best of luck, beautiful area of the world. |

ajarnforum is for teachers and knobbers

www.teakdoor.com or thaivisa.

Teakdoor.com has more open minded people.

There aren't actually many prositution based forums for Thailand.

If you join these forums with that sort of attitude you will just get slapped about though.

Not one of my friends in Thailand is married to a pro. All of them use teakdoor and thaivisa.

Join and start whittering on about how you ARE NOT INTERESTED IN PROSTITUTES etc etc. Will just get people calling names.

Do you get me? |

Why are you writing a treatise on prostitutes in Thailand and forum etiquette? You are projecting thoughts onto me which don't exist. It's cool that you have friends from Thailand that aren't married to prostitutes. I'm proud of you. Why mention it though? Why you would have to get defensive over nothing, I don't understand. Not everybody posts with some viscious intent--it could be possible that I was simply looking for a non-work related forum that didn't revolve around discussion about prostitutes. Couldn't that be possible? |

I'll be living with my girlfriend and we'll be in a committed relationship.

The reason I asked is because the only forums I had seen were phuketinfo (had absolutely no info on phuket except for the hookers), and the ajarn forum which is for educators. I'm not a teacher so that one isn't that useful to me either.

If anyone has any Chiang Mai recommendations (on anything whatsoever) throw them in here. I'll be in Chiang Mai basically the whole time. |

You made it clear that you thought forums for Thailand are prostitute information based. Hence pointing out that most people I know using forums have nothing to do with prostitutes.

You are doing the usual stick your nose in the air thing that western men do when it relates to the seedier side of Thai life.

Fact is that some of those whoremongers out there are your best source of information for actually living in Thailand.

As I said join Teakdoor or Thaivisa to get a good idea, they are the largest Thai life forums.

I love the mention of the girlfriend and steady relationship. Western men love to make a point about their partners being genuine relationships etc |

No I didn't. I don't think that and I never said that. Like I said, you projected unwritten information onto my post. Now say sorry to me and admit that you're an idiot in writing.

No I'm not. How do you know I don't love prostitutes? How do you know my Thai gf that I'm going to live with isn't a prostitute? Like I said, you're projecting things onto my post that I didn't say.

Guys (who are generally retired or are wealthy) are the best for information specific to a Thai boxer living on the cheap who doesn't go out drinking and wants to go to Thailand generally for self-improvement?

How is someone who spends 23 hours of their day differently from me going to be the best source of information for me. There is no intrinsic "best source" for everyone--people have different values, incomes, and activities that they like to engage in. For example, that's why a backpacker might get a book like "Backpackers Guide to Europe" rather than a guide for families interested in seeing Classical ruins.

As I said already, I went to the Phuket-Info forums (frequented by men who enjoy prostitutes) and found very little of use there. I can find great information on bars, restaurants, nightclubs, etc there--all stuff I am not planning on doing! SOO... I asked for a forum that I thought have more information specific to ME! I didn't make a judgement about prostitution at all. |

				Ah

So you're a Thai boxer. that would have made things so much easier to actually know your circumstances rather than you weren't interested in forums frequented by whoremongers.

PM DJPat - thai boxer

ChiangMai Noon - name says it al

Benbaa - somewhere up there

AntRobertson - same areaish

on Teakdoor.

do you have a visa? Are you making any plans on doing border runs? Rules have changed again recently. Have you applied at the for a non-imm-o multy entry on the basis of your GF? quite easy to do if you make up a story of getting married they should happily issue you one (even in Seoul) - will need a few of her docs though.

If not try for two back to back 60 day tourist visas. extend one at CM immigration near the end of the 60 days for a further 30? then do a border crossing activate the 2nd and another extension, gives you half a year.

not sure if they are still doing that thoug. have to check.

Seoul has given me multi entry o and b visas in the past. however o was issued on marriage, but I know of people who have them for other reasons. |

Wow thanks for this! I didn't know the O visa was an option for me since we're not married. I'll look into it.

My boxing camp has issued letters for educational visas in the past. They go for a year, so I'm gonna try using that first. Then I could probably switch to the O visa if I had the funds to stay longer.

Is Seoul's Thai embassy very strict about giving out visas? I've heard some places deny people education visas for Thai boxing, and some give them no questions asked. |

They have been ok in the past with me, like a lot of embassy's around the Asia region they can change on a whim.

the other option is to sign up to one of those education visas advertised on places like Ajarn and Teakdoor etc. Cost you a couple of 100,000 and you get a visa for a year.

Education visa is a lot easier to deal with than an O though. No worries with funds for extensions or having to do runs every 90 days if you can't do th extension.

I know people with non-imm-b's who go them purely on writing a letter about intentions of exporting stuff from thai factories. |
