I was wondering if anyone would be interested in this service. I can repair or update your firmware so you can play backups. Anyone interested? |

Somewhat. I got one second hand recently, an old arcade model without HDMI. I've been hanging out hoping it will red-ring so I can exchange it and maybe get an HDMI model. Where are you? |

I am interested in having my 360 modded, but I worry about getting banned from Live. I only play Halo 3 on Live, but man if I lost my ability to play online, I'd be pissed.
I only want to be able to play games from any region, rather than taking chances buying games labeled NTSC-J. |

you wont be banned from xbox live unless you are playing a game that hasnt been released yet. only games that are coded region free will be region free. that isnt determined by the drive, but by the game backup. whatever region you bought your xbox in, that is the region you will need to play those games. |

That's not necessarily true. I have bought 4 NTSC-J games from Yongsan that play fine on my North American 360.
Also, I thought one of the benefits of modding was to enable you to play all regions?
I've heard of many people being banned from Live while playing already-released burned games. |

As I mentioned in another thread, I think that depends on what version of the games you bought. With PGR4, did you buy the Japanese-locked version or the region-free Japanese version? The region-free Japanese version would play on your US box as it uses ntsc as well and, more importantly, the game is region-free. Likely, the guys at Yongsan weren't aware of how many versions of the game there are.

Looking at that link again, it looks like that game is actually region-free anyway(except for the Platinum Collection version). What are the other three games? I have a new US 360 coming in a week and I'll test my ntsc-j NHL 07 on it to see if it can be played, but I don't think that'll be possible.

No. Modding your 360 fools it into believing that you're playing a legit disk. The disk still has to either match your region or be region-free. These days, it seems like more games are becoming "NTSC Region-free", meaning they can be played in 360s bought in Asia(excluding China), Japan, US, and Canada. However, they still can't be played in Europe/Australia unless they are region-free.

Definite possibility if things aren't patched properly. Look into abgx and mulleter to help you with these issues. As MattAwesome said, it would be better to not play the game until after the official release. Some people say that you can never know when the hammer will fall, but many others have never had any problems(probably because they insure that their copy is properly patched before going online). |

I would google something like that. Best thing is check with another controller. Your controller or battery might be dead. |
