Ok... I have now set up shop in Incheon. I'm in the Seo-Gu area if that makes sense. I have seen a few gyms or "fitness centers" around. Most of them seem to be pretty small with limited equipment. I was wondering if anyone knows of any larger gyms in the area. Preferably ones that have classes in English or are frequented by foreigners. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I�m moving to Incheon in mid-February and am trying to figure out the best place to workout. Maybe it�s just me, but it doesn�t seem like Korea is a popular place for fitness clubs� Or maybe I�m not searching correctly. I�m looking for a big gym with lots of cardio equipment and possibly a steam room (a la Good Life Fitness). I�m open to travelling to Seoul as long as it�s accessible by subway� From what I�ve seen in Lonely Planet, it seems as bath houses and gym as usually connected. Is this correct? I like to workout regularly (several times a week) so I�d prefer somewhere that charges a monthly fee. I think it would get too expensive if I had to pay each time I went. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated

You're not looking hard enough. I can spit on several from my place.
I don't know about incheon, but there are plenty in korea. |

I don't know about where you are living and I don't know how your reading of the Korean Language is. But if it is minimal (well, non-existant) this might help.
Start walking around looking for signs in Korean like this: 골프 (golf), 휘트니스 클럽 (fitness club), GX, 스피닝 (Spinning), 헬스 (health).
For most places the golf and health are the two common advertised signs that you will see outside the building.

I'd suggest one big enough for a baby seal, but small enough to wield comfortably. |

all of the big western chains that have come in (California affilliated with 24 fitness, Ballys) have gone under within a couple of years. The Calif one was some story about mobsters, mismanagement etc. in its prime it was the best one here |

Ohhh... Good to know. I frequented California Fitness when I lived in Taiwan. I was hoping to find something similar in Korea. Guess not  |

| Incheon is a big city. Where will you be living? In Incheon Gajwa there's a gym I go to which is near my school and home, it has great equipment and lots of it, especially cardio. Many foreigners go there. Instructions are in English; there's a trainer avasilable for help. There's no sauna, but there is a hot room with a heated floor to relax in after and sweat. It's clean, and costs 60,000 won per month plus, if you want. 10,000 won to use the gym uniform which I find convenient. You also have your own locker so you can keep your personal products there. |

Thanks pogoro!~ That sounds like the type of place I'm looking for. I'm especially keen on a gym that provides classes in English. I wasn't sure I would be able to find something like that.
I don't know where I'll be placed in Incheon. I'm going with EPIK, so I under the impression, I'll find out when I get to Korea. However, I have no problem travelling for a good gym (as long as I can get there in under an hour I'm in). If you could provide the name or it's general location I would really appreciate it. |

Just ask someone when you get here. There are many gyms like that, because Koreans are fitness-crazy. It won't be necessary to travel far. I doubt you'll find classes in English, but non-verbal instructions work well. Don't worry.  |

 :Kneezah  How many other foreign teachers taught at the SL J****n English durning your last month there? There was only one other guy....and his name sounded very similar to Crazy Gideon....
Oh, and as to how I found you here on this forum, it was purely by coincidence....I saw your user name, and then saw the words "work out"...then remembered how you used to be a member at CA Fitness at TPE Main Station....then my head nearly exploded due to all of the mental strain of remembering so many memories from the past...  |
