Actually spelling is kind of important. It's the odrer of the lteetrs that's not.

This is a well documented phenomenon. It is easily understood when you think of the differences between top-down and bottom-up reading approaches. This pile of letters wouldn't mean much to students.

It's also a good way to test your students reading level as part of their placement test.

The other day I was talking with my friends about how crazy those shcool girls are in sending text messages.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/4223452/Girl-sends-14528-text-messages-a-month.html

Then they mentioned how they could read messages even without correct spelling......People do so because they could save time of shifting between the different letters whithin the same key.

wgm wamt tm gm jtmag wgtg md (any idea what I am saying?)

Not everyone can read that kind of writing. It would be safe to say that most of us here can because we teach English. Some very smart English people still cant read that kind of mumble jumble.

I think you would be surprised how easy this task is for most non native speakers of english. If one can read english at a reasonable level, then this is easy.

If the study is true, why is dyslexia a problem? Sad

I believe that phenomenon only works if limited to a certain number of letters per word. Most english words normally fit under that limit in regards to everyday speech. Therefore yours is a very good question indeed. I would imagine it is because different areas of the brain are being affected.

The first and last letters have to be correct or it becomes completely illegible. Dyslexia messes it all up.
