Yes the "new' visa requirements suck but this article plays a great chicken little:

"Who has potentially the thousands of dollars in time and money that may be necessary to spend in order to simply extend a visa?"

Obviously getting a criminal check done in Canada is different than in the states, but thousands? It gost me 50 bucks to have 2 copies of a check mailed to my house. And my school in korea paid for all the medical stuff. Maybe I'm lucky but clearly these restrictions haven't driven off foreigners in the hordes that some people claimed they would. If the schools actually only hired certified/qualified teachers as this article suggests I would guess that the vast majority of foreigners wouldn't qualify, oh what a solution.

I dunno. I think all the pain of getting the visa is worth it just for the kimchi.

I sincerely hope you all one day have the pleasure of applying to the JET program in Japan...compared to that, Korea was a breeze.

I've heard that Vietnam is worse than Korea but Korea is definitely in the bottom. I have heard many teachers with masters degrees in education and several years of experience teaching tell me that the educational culture here is a joke and then they leave for greener pastures. Asia is a place where people spend a gap year or build a career but rarely end it here. There are many reasons for this.
