I've always thought of India as a Commonwealth country, one with an advanced legal system, intelligent population, a rapidly developing society.

After reading this article, I no longer think so. In my opinion, India is the worst example of a "developing" nation. One that not only still has an "untouchable" population 60 years after Gandhi called for it's abolishment, one that refuses to take practical measures to control it's population growth, still has rampant infanticide and honour killings, builds a space program while most of it's populace live on less than $2 a day, but finally, one that takes no action against an institutionalized system involving gangs, police, the judiciary and doctors where children have limbs sawed off or acid poured on their tiny bodies so as to be more effective beggars. What an absolute disgrace of a "nation" if you can call it that. It seems to me to be more of a nation of rich people, and the rest, subhumans.

I suggest reading the comments section after reading the article. Many Indians are well aware and outraged at their country's state.

Look - I'd argue that India's fundamental problem is a dislocation of capital and labor.

One third is illiterate, 80% live in poverty, 55% is aged under 25, production and distribution is ineffective, property ownership is a shambles, disease is rampant, even basics like drinking water, housing and toilets are a luxury.

By any measurment, 60 years of bourgeous democracy and capitalism has been a failure.

It has created a small ruling class, perhaps 20%, who are more the product of the imperialist and colonialist past, rather than as a result of any real innovation or political initiative on their part.

Dangling capitalism as an illusion to the millions of poor and downtrodden, is almost feudal in its cruelty.

Everyone knows there are no easy solutions and, in all probability, no parliamentary pathway out of its current situation.

The peasant and working class majority MUST be put at the absolute center of the political discourse. The structure of the state and social systems within it, need to be radically changed through collective, large scale socialist production in every area.

Alright socialist hippies. capitalism is great. The masses of India will eventually dwindle down to manageable levels. That's the way that things work here at this moment. India needs space. The US needs space. The Earth needs space. Through Space we will spread beyond the confines of our solar system, it may take 3 - 4 centuries, but eventually we will get out of this well. The trick isn't to leave all of your eggs in one basket. So if a few die, for the future to live, so be it. HIPPIES!!!!! Suck!.!.!
