Out here in the sticks there's not alot to do. Nothing remotely interesting to watch oustide of CNN and OCN. So lately I've been watching Arirang. Now I know the programming and the shows are pretty much "Korea is great and this is why" type of hype, but I'm curious how many people actually watch this stuff?
There was an interesting show the other day about learning Korean. I speak Spanish and it was for Spanish learners coming to Korea. I found it quite intriguing.
However the commercials are what drive me mad. There's the ones for Korea Sparkling, Samsung, the Free trade zones etc... but the one for Incheon just blew my headgasket right off. Says some to the effect like "Incheon, Global city, the center of the world, the center of the ocean, the center of business, the center of the sky.."
WTF???? I mean advertising for places is great but atleast make it accurate. |

I watch Arirang.
Only on rare moments when they have the w3 tournaments. And even those are boring from the anglicized announcements.
Whenever it is on MBC Game or another channel, I watch there instead. |

| I watch Cuisine Tour, knowing that I'll never be able to eat the things they show, and e-sports StarCraft, because this is Korea. |

i loved the ad they used to show for incheon where the voiceover would say something like, -----incheon, voted aisas number 1 business hub------ but then it would cut to the ending and in tiny writing it said "actually voted number two"
I love korea!! |

| I don't watch the no-man's-land channels. Sorry. I actually don't own a TV. I have a computer and can choose what I want to watch and when I want to watch it. |

Arirang? Insert knife, then twist.
An 'All English' chanel run by a bunch of Koreans who can't speak English The system they use to run that place is so bad it's actually funny. |

I don't have tv at my appt (and refuse to pay to get it, since I almost never watch it - though perhaps this might change, depending on what channels I can get and for what price)
but
Arirang - didn't even know this channel existed, but was flipping thru the channels here in the PI and I saw some SPANISH speakers.. teaching basic "Korean" . Other than the Korean phrases they were introducing, they spoke Spanish.
I was amazed.
and I found that extraordinarly "cool".
I also have enjoyed some KBS World broadcasts with dubbing because you learn more about Korea, the culture, life, etc etc etc |

Agreed but accuracy in this case would be embarrassing.

| I can watch the news on there, but that's it. I used to watch it when it first started in the mid-90's. But now, I'd rather watch something interesting on the net, on DVD or just look out the window. |

It's not news, it's propaganda that makes non-Korean (and Korean) viewers with even a little brain laugh. |
