What say you college types out there? Anyone ever try a program like this? I think it'd be a nice break from the norm if you're just teaching lit or grammar or phonics. You could discuss ideas, fictional terms, their origins, etc.

I have seen curricula for these sorts of classes in university; they're not much more than an excuse to sit around and read a bunch of fun novels for a semester (a lot of English classes could be described this way, though). I don't think sci-fi novels would be appropriate for an ESL context, but they wouldn't be inappropriate either. You could focus on plot, vocabulary (not sci-fi specific words; that's just retarded), themes, cultural representations. For a Korean class, it would probably be most interesting to discuss heroism and individuality in the books.

This is assuming, of course, a very high level of students.

Why would it be retarded to have some discussion of the vocab typically used in science fiction? It's usually a medley of current technology and verbal improvisation.
