I've read threads about this in the past, but I also recently read in the news that US Customs is beefing up its anti-piracy laws.
So, I've been in Korea for a number of years and am currently considering going back home. I have several thousand MP3's, probably close to a thousand downloaded movies, and at least a hundred downloaded programs. Oh, and a fake briefcase and two fake watches.
I'm seriously considering leaving Korea. But, I'm worried about my 'Koreanized products...'
Has anyone brought pirated goods back home recently? Do you think I should just leave them? I've got quite a bit of stuff, so I'll be shipping some stuff. If I ship it, should it go Korean Post or Fedex? If I bring it on the airplane, carry on or checked luggage? Should I buy a bunch of USB memory sticks and try to conceal them?
Advice would be appreciated. |

I sent two external HDs priority Fed Ex, was a bit spendy but made it home on time.
the customs form has boxes to check regarding the contents. One box said "three or less computer items valued under $100 for personal use" (not direct quote).
Customs seems more concerned about taxes and if you intend to sell the items. |

Cool, thanks!
I completely missed that post, and it was pretty recent, too!
Shame on me, bad Dave's poster! |

I used to work at Customs, albeit in Canada.
A USB stick might be more concealable, but if they find it then they can pop it in to their computer or send it off to a lab for analysis.
It doesn't matter whether you carry on or check in because you go through Customs after you get off the plane/pick up your luggage.
I would mail it and declare it as movies/personal items. Its far less likely to be examined.
I wouldnt worry about the briefcase, or the watch. As long as you don't have a bag full of them... |

| I should add that when I worked at Customs we were more concerned with finding child porn than pirated movies but again that's Canada. |
