why the trash talk? nothing wrong with loving your own country. blind loyalty and ultra nationalism, maybe.

Plus, Japan has no claim over dokdo. It was taken from korea in 1905 as a colony and it is only right that it should return to Korea.

May this person drown in a vat of maple syrup after being sat on by our pleasantly-plump women, tail-swatted by our beavers, pooped on by our Canadian geese, and forced to listen to Celine Dion for 1 hour straight!!

Don't try to talk sense into people here lol.

It's sad how many bitter posters there are here who say Dokdo belongs to Japan only because they don't like Korean people . If you don't like Korean people go back to your own country, no one is forcing you to stay, get over your bitterness.

Typical Korean logic. When you don't have any evidence, rant and rave and scream as loud as you can. So stop having a temper tantrum and grow up.
Whether you like it or not, Japan has a much stronger case.

If you are so smug and sure of yourself, why don't you show us a Korean map accurately depicting Dokdo before 1905?

*Hint* You can't do it.

This is the exact opposite of the truth. Japan was the first country to ever claim Takeshima (this was before Japan annexed Korea). However, Takeshima was illegally and forefully taken from Japan at gunpoint by the Korean military in 1954, and turned into a Korean colony. Therefore, it is only right that it should return to Japan.

I'd reply seriously to this, but I have a mouthful of beaver.

This is a little ironic coming from someone who can't use punctuation and capitalization properly. At least you are consistent with your user name. Rolling Eyes

I think any reasonable person can accept Korea's claim (without really caring one way or another) due to the island's far greater proximity to Korea and that it was never populated by anyone. I don't see how drawing something on a map earlier than someone else inevitably makes it yours. But what I don't understand is why Korea keeps going on about it. The place has been under their control for over fifty years, and despite a bit of textbook malarkey and right-wing posturing across The Sea of Broken Dreams, the sovereignity of the place is under no threat at all. In fact, constantly frothing at the mouth and whining inconsolably about it is probably counterproductive, because it puts Japan into a defensive posture that makes it politically difficult for them to back down from.

The way they go on about it you would think that this was the last remaining piece of disputed territory in an otherwise peaceful world. But I wonder if Koreans take as passionate an interest in Morocco and Spain's competing claims to Ceuta and Melilla as they expect the rest of the world to take in this damned rock?

Just for fun, China and Russia should get into the debate over Takeshima. Now that would be funny.

Indeed. But the key words here are "reasonable person".

You know Korean nationalists, if americans were the same way, you'd see a PETA nut go into a biker bar and throw ketchup on a Warlock's leather jacket.
-Koreans in Korea never suffer for their crazy s***. They can beat up or deport any foreigner any time. Its like as long as the foreigners are useful it's ok. Go ahead pimp out all the Russians and Phillipino WOMEN, but Allah Forbid one of our K-girls be even SEEN with whitey!

Why is it reasonable to assume that Takeshima belongs to South Korea because it is marginally closer? As mentioned before, I guess the United Kingdom should have done the right thing and returned the Falkland Islands to Argentina that they stole. As a proud Canadian, I guess Greenland should be ours instead of Denmark's because it's closer dammit! How about Clipperton Island?

If you want informed discussion on the topic I recommend this website:

http://dokdo-or-takeshima.blogspot.com/

It's in English, Korean and Japanese. It has links for pro-Japanese and pro-Korean points of view. After looking over the evidence a person should be able to make a reasonable, logical decision.

I am still waiting on those pre-1905 Korean maps accurately depicting Dokdo. Any takers out there?
