My cute-as-a-button daughter has done some modelling for a baby magazine, and we were recently told that they might use her for the cover.

My question is: when the hell are they gonna start paying?

Anything in the contract?

Did you sign one at all?

If anything, you get to show off to all the other parents, and that in itself is worth more than money.. After all, it's your kid we're talking about.

If that doesn't appeal, you can just refuse the magazine to use your child's adorable face.. :)

The first two times they featured her, I knew what was what, and kept my dumb mouth shut. But if they're going to put her on the cover (what ultimately sells the rag to yer average Joe Kim Schmoe) and reap a large profit, I'm inclined to think I deserve a cut.

Just wondering if us enthusiastically proud parents are getting a raw deal.

i think i know what you mean....i did a commercial a while back and i was so psyched to do it (and a little proud, since i was chosen from many) that i wouldn't have minded if i didn't get paid....i ended up getting paid rather well (really didn't think i would because i know that kind of thing happens all the time). but if i do it again, i'm asking for money up front....you're right -- after the novelty wears off, don't be taken advantage of!

I don't understand the whole buzz thing with modelling/acting in general. I think watching paint dry is a more interesting occupation, but that's just me. Yeah your being taken advantage of, in general a lot of ad companies will take advantage of the how stars in their eyes type thing to lower or not pay people.

yeah your lucky... I have spent far too much time hanging around on filmsets not getting paid when I was kid (my dad was in the movie industry in new zealand). Bored the hell out of me, the reality is that this line of work is neither fun nor galmourous.

What line of work would you say is glamorous then?

Wifey and I are of course careful to make sure that our little angel isn't subjected to any type of stress while doing these shoots.

I was pretty amazed because, the last time Rapzilla was photographed, my wife left after only half an hour (the two other moms there -- from Daegu and Pusan Shocked -- had been there for over ten hours) because the studio was recently repainted, and my wife worried (rightly) about the smell.

Nevertheless, the magazine still chose my daughter. There's something to be said for leaving a brief-but-lasting impression.

But pretty soon I'm going to start channeling Ray Liotta in Goodfellas:

"F__k you, pay me."

I have a lot of expertise in this particular field but have yet to get into here in Korea. I've had some contacts with agents here but so far nothing has been lucrative enough for me to waste my time with. I also hear that models don't always get payed which would be way too much for me to deal with

totally agree with no glamour, and overly repetitive. But I find the industry really interesting. Alot depends on the type of project you are working on, and they pay is pretty cool.

Tiberius, I know you hate me, but I can ask some parents of my students how much their kids get paid. I know of at least 2 that have modelled for baby and kid magazines. I can also ask my talent agent what going rates are -- although I don't know if he deals with kids any.

I'll ask around on Monday and let you know.

Well, that's what my agent does. Finds talent. He also happens to find foreigners to mull around in the background of TV dramas and stuff.

That is where i come in *laugh*.
