One thing that bothers me about this site is how slow it is. A lot of the times I can't even connect. How about switching the servers? Whenever I visit this site I feel like I'm using a 56k modem.

ATM's that shut down around 10:30 pm, & don't reopen until 6am. Even though they're supposed to be 24/7?

oops

Speaking of...
There're loads of posters with REALLY recent Joined on dates with exceedingly astute insights into life on Planet K, and about Dave's in general.
And n00bs coming on posting raunch to make a mole ill. Which is not easy, mind you. I do applaud some recent "moderation."
I first burrowed into Dave's in January '97, and always have been amazed the apparent renewable resource of offensive socks.
I mean, I walk a tight line, and have been warned and straightened up, and such, but never banned, nor felt a need to create a mini-mole.

oh. Peeves in K-land> Same as everyone's. But my Mum came here for my wedding and was constantly cringing in horror at the incessant *HORK*s. Whether followed by a projectile or not.
She's like, "My God, in elevators, restaurants, sidewalks, department stores, train stations, airport, everywhere. Is it the pollution??"
Yes, Mum, that's it.

Wonder Girls/JYP/Jewelry/Pretty Girls/Rain and all of the "rappers" with initials for names.
Korean hip-hop....it's a New York thing...
The hairstyles.
Fake glasses.
People that hang out in Starbucks because they think it's cool.
People that think they are good teachers.
White GI's who talk and dress like Lil Wayne.
Hooters in Korea.

Please note that I could make the same list for the USA, Canada, Japan, Guam or wherever. It doesn't really mean anything. And yes, I know where the airport is and I know that I can leave. I don't care if anyone has a problem with my list. Go be a good teacher and hang out in Itaewon or whatever you do. It's all good.

I agree with everything except for the subway one. Most lines have trains that come every few minutes, but line 1 sucks incredibly. I have waited for a train for 45 minutes on more than one occasion. It's really annoying too when you live a few stops past Guro, but can't get on the first 5 trains because they're heading to Incheon.

Yeah, I don't agree with that one either. I 'walk very quickly' between transfers because 1. I'm usually in a hurry, and 2. I enjoy walking quickly.

What harm does it do others? Does it offendyou to see me moving faster than you? Should I maintain the 'tourist pace' that many maintain??

I don't have a few minutes!

I ran so fast to catch a bus the other day my momentum almost made me do a face plant right in front of it. Very Happy

Pet peeves....

I don't like that discount clothing stores often don't have a place to try things on.

I'm down with the horking and public urination. Sure, it's pretty disgusting, but if you've got some flem that needs to fly, I say go for it. There are two sounds that bother me, though. One is the whiny sound agashis. The other is the hissing sound ajumas use to emphasize certain syllables.

My biggest pet peeve is the cab drivers, though. They don't seem to understand that when you're not taking customers or you have someone in the taxi already, you turn off the light on the roof. I also don't understand why they will drive in the left lane when they're accepting passengers, I don't understand why they will drive by 50 people and not let anyone in, I don't understand the logic of saving money by driving around for miles looking for a good customer.

1. Variable air quality.

2. The fact that shopping at E-mart is a family affair; impossible to move in that place with whole families gathered around their carts slowly meandering from aisle to aisle like their walking through the park on a Sunday afternoon. Also, the emloyees there come close to outnumbering the customers at any given moment, and they all want to talk to you, creating further obstacles to a swift exit.

3. Fluorescent lighting. I spend 6+ hours under their insidious glare at my Hagwon, then another 20-30 minutes going blind at the E-Mart picking up some things for dinner, then just about to pull my hair out when I finally make it home and realize I'm preparing dinner under FLUORESCENT LIGHTS!!!!(not exactly particular to Korea, but annoying nonetheless)

4. Variable air quality.

5. The way people scurry towards an arriving bus like it's only going to admit the first three people.

6. Sidewalks as parking lots and scooter expressways.

7. Overly accessorized fashionable females wobbling their way to and from shopping excursions (again, not really particular to Korea, but annoying all the same).

8. The announcements that come over the loudspeaker located in the center of my ceiling that always seem to startle me from sleep.

9. Dogs penned up in coops next to the chickens.

10. People that bump into you without a word.

11. Varaible air quality.

Other than that, I'm cool.

Yeah, Line 1 sucks, except I have to go north to Uijeongbu. Half the time they only go to Changdong or Seonbuk. It seems to attact more yelling salemen than the others (unless you're going to Incheon, which I did for 6 years).

1) The fact that Wonder Girls' 'Nobody' seems to have several versions, and that playing all of these versions in an hour at a bar is totally acceptable

2) When you ask, 'How do I do ~~~~~?', say opening a bank account, hailing a taxi, going to a restaurant without pictures on the menu, the answer is always 'Get a Korean co-worker to help you'.

3) Being outright pointed at by middle aged-women. I can handle the staring, but pointing, seriously?

That's so adjosshis don't blow their whole paycheck in one night after they get totally hammered. I must admit I find it annoying too though...
