That's full of crap.
The rules are different if you call up the embassy and ask what you need to bring.
I was a past E-2 visa holder and I can assure you that of the 10 different documents taken with me only 2 were actually needed (the visa issuance form + NOA)
Make the call first. it could save you alot of headaches

Are you sure that the DC consulate is the right one for your state?

You should use the DC consulate if you live in DC, Virginia, or Maryland.


My reference letter was from a former employer, and was accepted by EPIK. It was not notarized, and I was not required to submit it to the Chicago consulate with my visa application. (If you intend to teach at a private school the requirements are a bit different though)

I called the Chicago consulate before sending them my docs (interview waived for EPIK applicants), and what they told me to send was the same as published on the website.

The contact details are very important to be included on the letter.
The period of employment must be stated.
There must be a sentence about you as an employee.
It must be signed.

The letter must be sealed in an envelope and left unopened.
Anything straying from these guidelines will not be accepted.

I just got my visa today. I think the reference letter is only for the application process. All I needed was my official degree, transcripts (i only had unofficial ones), passport photo, the contract, and 45 bucks. Also, there's a short form you have to fill out; it requires a contact person for reference. ask your recruiter for this info; mine was the GEPIK coordinator. hope this helps.
