I know that I should go to a travel agent here in Seoul, but I was searching online about flight prices. Flights to Chicago seem to be pretty expensive these days, so I was looking into flying into LA or Vancouver, and then booking a domestic flight after that, maybe saving some money. (And yes, I know that Canada is a different country, but as far as I know we still don't need passports to visit each other.)

Anyway, I was on Expedia.com looking at prices, and I found a flight from Incheon to Vancouver for under US$300.

Wow! A flight from Vancouver to Chicago isn't that expensive, so I clicked on it, only to get the following message:

We're sorry, the price of this flight has changed from $295.30 to $1,276.30

Wow! That's a big jump...

Has anyone seen any good prices to North America lately? If so, where?

Honestly, I'd kind of like to fly in to one of the coasts and then take a train to Chicago. I know it'd be tedious, but I imagine it could be a fun trip.

Sorry, no I haven't found any cheap flights, however when you mentioned about the sudden price jump, that has happened to me a couple times.
I see this deal, that's almost too good to be true, spend the next few minutes checking a few other sites and see that it's way too much, click back and it jumped 500%. I learned to just click on "book it" whenever I see a great price.

Actually we do need passports to visit each other these days but I'm guessing you meant VISA. No, not yet anyway.

Your land plan is interesting I went Chicago to Vancouver on Amtrak and loved it. Cost under 300 bucks-depends on season. The meals were surprisingly good and cheap. I think it's quite a bit longer to do California -Chicago as it takes some weird routes.

Continental has flights for $725US (tax incl.) that I found through kayak.com but that includes two stopovers per trip, in Tokyo and Houston. I'd rather pay an extra $250ish and only have one stopover, but that's me.

travelcuts.com and kayak.com generally seem to have the best rates.

Travelcuts also offers a 'youth' pass for those of us under 26 that's occasionally useful, I saved about $250 on my flight to Seoul from Toronto.

I found all the discount sites (like Vayama, Expedia, or even booking directly from the airline site) are CHEAPER than going to a travel agent in Seoul. If you have an American or Canadian based credit card, it's golden cause all the cheapest travel sites only accept payment with North American credit cards.

If you're going one-way and not coming back to Korea, try entering a roundtrip ticket - it's likely cheaper. My return flight was almost 1/2 off as a roundtrip instead of a one-way.
