It looks like I will have medical treatment here in Korea, and I need to transfer about $10K in my HSBC US account either directly to the hospital or perhaps to my KB account. Does anyone know what the cheapest and most secure way of doing this is? Thanks.

I have done wire transfers to Korea using Everbank, and ETrade bank. Price is between $25 and $50 per transfer and take about 3 days.
Procedure was like this.
-Call US bank or check online for Wire request form (get skype for call if you don't have already).
-Take form to Korea bank to fill in proper "swift code" for bank and probably "bank address".
- fax form to US bank (or complete online if possible). You can fax with a skype add-on called pamfax

The next steps are optional
-Take 1K and buy ticket to Thailand
-Have treatment in Bangkok Bamrungrad hospital or similar.
-Get world class care for probably cheaper than Korea
