Long story short...my E-2 expires in about 3 weeks. It is impossible for me to get a CBC living in Korea. So I cannot renew at my job or take a new one. I found this out about 2 weeks ago. I'm ready to leave but my boss says that the school cannot replace me on such short notice. The option is that my boss flies me to Japan and I come back and work on a 90 day tourist visa and continue working on my present job for 6 more months (fly to Japan twice). I know this is illegal and I am worried about the problems associated with that. My GF says I should stay bc jobs suck everywhere else but personally I'm ready to put Korea in the rearview. I'm just wondering if anyone else is in this situation. Your thoughts...negative and positive...thanks.

You are aware that your boss can rip you off when it comes to paying severance, airfare and last month's salary no? Since you are illegal, you can't protest to anyone.

And clearly he isn't worried about performing illegal activities if he is willing to have you work illegally.

And if your E-2 expires it doesn't matter if the school can't replace you. That's not your problem. Your problem is how you are going to be out of the country on the last day of your E-2 visa. Otherwise if you are caught you are looking at a huge fine, deportation and a possible ban on coming back to Korea for a few years.

Why is it impossible for you to get your criminal check living in Korea?

it might be different in florida, but in california the cbc doesn't have to be notarized to be apostilled if it was issued by the state. i just had to tell them that the cbc needed to be apostilled so they would send a cover letter with an original signature and stamp on it.

WTF do you care if your boss can replace you or not?

You want to put K-land in the "rearview"... to even consider working illegally is idiocy! Rolling Eyes
