Can anyone back-up the initial article for this? All I can find is the Times article, which if you read the comments underneath the people are saying it is incorrect and that it is insignificant parts of certain towns that have actually banned ethnic food.
You shouldnt believe anything you read in British newspapers. |

Hi - If you want to talk with me, you can do that. You seem to want to talk at me and you do that.
Things are bad in Italy. The Italians don't want to ban "food", they want to hunt these people (these xenos) down and kill them. The Italians are gracious hosts, their economy is fed by tourism. They aren't keen on being invaded, replaced and eliminated. They are the heirs of the Roman empire and are quite well versed on the matter. They have seen it all before.
If you want to do an invasion, use men and have the men wear uniforms and have the men belong to an army. Don't use women and children and unarmed non uniformed non combatant men. Its infuriating and it'll just make a big mess later on. |

How is any of this germane to these regulations? If you want to restrict immigration, restrict immigration. Banning ethnic food is beyond purile. |

| There's going to be a post by me in a few days by called "The Most Important Essay Written in the last 1000 years". |
How did you get access to my freshman essay on hobbits? Dr. Howard said she was going to frame it and put it on her office wall. It has nothing to do with ethnic food. |

Italy: Govt okays local 'vigilante' patrols
Rome, 5 Feb. (AKI) - Anti-Immigrant vigilante groups in Italy could begin organising themselves to start street patrols to monitor any 'illegal activities' by immigrants. The move was made after the Italian senate approved on Thursday legislation allowing the patrols.
However, the opposition Democratic Party (PD) introduced an amendment banning the patrols from carrying arms and limiting their role to notifying authorities of any 'wrongdoing' by immigrants.
"From today, we abandon do-gooding. From now on it will be a tough battle against criminality and illegal immigration," said Northern League Senate whip Federico Bricolo, who also dismissed claims of racism by members of opposition parties.
Maurizio Gasparri, one of the presidents of the parliamentary groups of the centre-right People of Freedom Party in the Senate and the Lower House, said the bill was to safeguard the rights of Italians.
"These are laws that give precedence to the rights of Italians, because for us, Italians come first. We are not racist, the opposition should be ashamed of themselves."
"When I take my daughter to school in the morning, I would rather see an old man with a coloured vest, (carrying out vigilante duties) rather than someone dealing drugs," said Gasparri.
The patrols will be able to point out "events that can cause harm to public security, or situations of environmental distress," the legislation states.
A phone number has also been set up in northern Italy, to recruit volunteers for the patrols. The move was organised by the northeastern Veneto region's branch of the conservative Italian political party Forza Italia.
"In every province, in every commune, we will give our support for the birth of volunteer groups that want to organise themselves to point out to the authorities possible criminal acts," said Dario Bond, regional councillor for Forza Italia.
Ahead of Italy's April 2008 general election, Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia party and the National Alliance party announced they would merge to form the People of Freedom party.
In addition, the legislation includes a provision calling for a 'census' of homeless people. The data collected will be entered into a database held by Italy's interior ministry.
Doctors will also be able to report illegal immigrants to the Italian government under legislation approved on Thursday by the Italian senate. Another law imposes a 80-200 euros charge for immigrants requesting a permit of stay in Italy, also an initiative of the Northern League.
However, before passing into law, the legislation must be approved by the lower house. |
As I said earlier in this thread, it is easy to calm the masses about things their government forces upon them when times are good. When the economy goes to hell, watch out. |

Oh, man, that is terrible. Illegal immigrants will just stop seeing doctors.
Yes, if your neighbor has a disease, you want him to go see a doctor. *dares people to declare he is a bleeding-heart* |

| I wonder how long Italy's ban would last if some other country banned spaghetti, pizza and lasagna. Not long, I imagine. |
I suppose countries of Japan, China, and those in the Middle East could refuse to import Italian olive oil in response if this idea spreads and other countries like Japan could do the same. Italy would not like that, I am sure. I, personally, don't eat much Italian food. I used to, but I find it rather heavy and so do many people, Italian or not. Anyway, this idea is molto stupido. |
Most Italian food in Japan is better than in Italy, they use better ingredients. |

I predict a massive drop in revenue from Korean tourists if they cannot import or have easy access to red pepper paste.
They're just shooting themselves in the foot on this one. |

Let the market decide. McDonalds go up everywhere because Big Macs taste good. They don't just put a McDonalds there and force people to eat it. They put a McDonalds there because they think it'll make money.
And as an Italian you should know that you can't ban anything in Italy. All it'll do is flood the streets with illegal foreign food. Prohibition sucks. |
