hello all, I am considering using some of my summer vacation to bike tour around Korea a bit. I have done this in Japan, Indonesia, USA, and China already. Has anyone done this and is it safe? Are there roads that are mountainous that I can use to get around on that are not overly busy?
I will be using a raod racing type bike with a backpack and nothing else.

I read some guys blog about bike touring japan. don't remember the website but I had googled something like "bicycle safety Korea"
Anyway, it is definately doable. I plan to spend part of my summer vacation touring as well. Lots of nice hills and beautiful countryside when you get away from the cities in this country. |

Chew on this equation:
Your bike + ferry + Jeju Island = Great bike ride |

| Jeju, been there already. It's a bit to small for bike touring but beautiful and a good warmup tour. I am thinking about the Northeast region because it's quite hilly and I hope that there will not be alot of cars there. |

| The Sokcho area is good if you stay off the main drag going south. Soraksan has a challenging road running through it. Odaesan is near Soraksan, but I haven't been there yet. I've heard it is also good. Route 7 running down the coast from Sokcho to Pohang has too much traffic, in my opinion. Route 7 going north from Sokcho to the DMZ is a cool run. Maybe you could do that. |
