Hubby and i decided on a name that sounds the same/close in english and korean for our son.
Some more choices for you
Boy names:
Jadon (one of the new top names in US)- Jae Don (korean)
Jamin (short for Benjamin)- Jae Min (korean)
For his english name we are using my dad's name as a middle name and in the korean registry, he will just use his first and last name. Easy solution for us  |

For our little one due on Boxing Day, we have decided on both English and Korean names. Since we live in Canada, the English name will be registered as the first name and the Korean name will be the middle one.
We thought using names that could go between English and Korean, but if it is a boy it would be pretty important for my in-laws that we use the generational marker Kyu. And really, what English name will work with Kyu? |

We just named ours Benjamin. American side of the family calls him Ben or Benjamin, Korean side calls him Jae-Min. My wife and I use all. When he's old enough to choose what he likes, he can use whichever version suits him.
Oh, and on his Korean documents, He is Ben Ja Min (in Hangeul, can't type it on this computer.)
Works well for everyone. |

That's a great reason NOT to choose that name. Nothing says "you're unoriginal" like saddling your kid with a name shared by 4 others in his grade 1 class.
In many European countries, you don't have to pick a name until a child's 1st bday. That way the personality and the name have a better chance of matching up.
In some Catholic traditions, the name on the certificate (invariably "Maria") doesn't get used, in favour of some nickname. Of my 5 Dutch cousins, only one goes by the name on the certificate.
I was named after my parents' heroes. I plan to do the same with my kids. Sure, we have some unusual names: never hurt, though. The opinions of other people vis-a-vis my names has always been 100% irrelevant. So if you love Kananga, or Penelope, or Takeshi, then go ahead and give your baby that name. I had a student at my last haggie named Rosalia. She did not appear to have suffered as a result of her non-Korean name.
It seems to me that name a child to match the colour of their skin is only pandering to outdated ideas of race. |

| My new favorite Korean name is Jin-ja -- they tell me it means "Pearl". I think if a girl wanted to be called by an English name, it would be a quick hop over to "Ginger", which is a pretty sassy little name. |

or...her english name could just be Pearl.
I have a good Korean friend named Miae....it means ocean or something....i forget completely. anyway, some korean names aren't hard to pronounce in english. or, some can be close to english names. like Ji-eun...english name could be Jean. |

Agreed. Looking back on my first name, it is Hebrew in origin. But I am of Danish/Ukranian heritage. Guess I should call up the folks and tell them that they made a mistake and should have named me "Jorgen" or "Mikkel". Darn parents! What were they thinking? |

I've mentioned this before (hell, maybe on this same thread):
When our daughter was born, I was given a Certificate of Live Birth form to fill out. It was all in English, so I wrote my daughter's name only in English, and her Korean documents are a Hangeulization of that name.
And she has the best name ever in the entire history of the world.
And it's not Rapzilla.
And, no, Joe Thanks, I'm not telling you what that name is.

So many great ideas! ' love Benjamin. One of my student's English name's Ben. He��s a sweetheart too.
Congratulations Taegu girl and Helly. Best wishes to both of you and yours!!
Our girl will be exactly 8 mos. tomorrow and her names rock (at least 4 out of 5 of them)! Seriously though, she answers to both her Korean and English 1st names and as far as I can tell, she likes them both equally.
