I work at a GEPIK elementary school. I've been here for 1 year and 8 months.
I have not taken one day off sick yet, ever.
If I do change schools this year (contract ends in May) how many days do you think I could take off without getting fired?
I know it says 15 sick days in the contract and 15 days notice is required if they decide to fire you.
I realize a public school is unlikely to fire me, but what would you say is the maximum no. of days I could take off for sickness, without being fired?
The full 15? I remember once a Korean co-teacher from another school told me their native was off sick for 4 weeks. The time over 15 days was unpaid, but they hadn't been fired.
This is a purely hypothetical question, I may not take any days off.
What's your view? |

I never got an answer to this. I've worked at this GEPIK elementary school since May 07, I've taken no sick days yet.
This contract ends in May. If I don't renew my contract for a third year, I was thinking I may take some days off around the May 5th holiday.
I have 15 sick days entitlement and they have to give 15 days notice to fire me, I think.
What do you think? How many days off would you take, maximum? |

according to my contract, i can take off 7 consecutive days (inclusive of weekends and national holidays) sick without getting a doctors note. so basically call in on a tuesday, come back to work on the following tuesday (that's 5 sick days used, plus 2 weekend days). |

I sprained my ankle at work and the principal refused to let me come back to work for 2 weeks.. after that I needed a note that it was ok. |

I'm changing public schools in a couple of weeks and plan to use all of my remaining sick days before I finish my contract. |

I said I took 10 sick days, but I should attach a memo to that...
I only called in sick 3 times.
The other 7 I requested several days or weeks in advance for doctors appointments, or personal time off (family visiting).
Strangely, my school doesn't seem to care if I request time off, but if I'm actually sick, they get grumpy. |

I said that, until I nearly died from a burst appendix. There's no going into work the next day after that. |

Well, that's contravening Labor Law (minimum is 30 days).
Colour me surprised. I almost had a heart attack from that surprise. |

I get 15 sicks days a year that which I give back to my school.
I understand Korean culture. I've never taken a day off. It's against Korean culture. I would rather drop dead on the spot than phone in sick.
I have jung I understand Korean culture. Once I would go to school then at five I would go straight to the hospital and put myself under the drip. |

The co-teacher I have, has tried her best to get rid of me, without any success.
The way I feel, I could care less about Korean culture. I care about myself far more. |

Couldn't care less. The expression is "I couldn't care less".

No, I actually meant I could care even less than I already do. |

Both forms are acceptable though. Interesting discussions on both phrases exist. |
