| Ok, I have 22 days left in Korea and I want to climb the best mountain reachable by subway. Which ones are the best!?! The higher the better. Few stairs if possible. Folliage is better than temples, but both are good. |

Bukhansan and Dobongsan are the nicest mountains reachable by subway - There also the nicest peaks outside of Seoraksan that I've seen in Korea (I've been to a number of the national parks).
Most of the hiking trails in Korea have lots of stairs - there is no Leave No Trace ethic like in N.America. Because they can build metal stairs the trails rarely contour. Enjoy the stairs, they are cool and they let you go places that would normally require actual climbing. If you aren't concerend with getting to the top and really don't want stairs take a trail that goes up a drainage (along a stream).
It is the middle of winter, there is no foliage. |

Gwanaksan. I recommend the approach from Gwacheon Station though. |

Oh, never been to Dobongsan, how do you get there?

take the blue line, line 1, to Dobongsan station. When you get off the subway look straight, across the highway, and you'll see the mountain. There's Russian looking buildings across the highway and if you walk on the street near those you'll get to the entrance of the park.
Dobongsan is a good hike. I think when I hiked it I found the hard trail with very few stairs. As you reach the peak you will have more stairs because it's mostly rock, but it's a great hike otherwise. Hope this helps. |

| Surisan in Gunpo is nice. Take line 4 to Sanbon Station. |
