In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated.
Rodriguez's name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball's '03 survey testing, SI's sources say. As part of a joint agreement with the MLB Players Association, the testing was conducted to determine if it was necessary to impose mandatory random drug testing across the major leagues in 2004.
When approached by an SI reporter on Thursday at a gym in Miami, Rodriguez declined to discuss his 2003 test results. "You'll have to talk to the union," said Rodriguez, the Yankees' third baseman since his trade to New York in February 2004. When asked if there was an explanation for his positive test, he said, "I'm not saying anything."

A-rod is a pe-nis. That was great when Varitek (Boston's catcher) shoved his mitt in his face during the ALCS. |

No, it's good. Another reason to hate on A-Rod and the Yankees. |

I think it is not good. Well good that he got caught, bad because he is a cheat. It would certainly be nice to see a true, all time great baseball player in tis modern era, break the records of the past by doing it the old fashioned way. |

Big deal. Everybody in that era did steroids. There are whole hosts of players with great stats in non peak area of your career, then suddenly falling off after testing became more widespread. Those guys are on every roster including the red sox. |

A Rod has better stats than Griffey.
You mean the best clean players of the era. Unless the hall of fame just decides to disregard the late 90s/early noughties a lot of tainted guys are going to the hall. |

Something we can agree on. Sadly, thier accomplishments have been overshadowed by cheats. |
