8 Koreans to Be Brought Back From US Prisons

South Korea has decided to take back eight South Korean prisoners currently jailed in the United States to allow them to serve out their remaining prison terms in their homeland, Yonhap News reported quoting a South Korean diplomat in Washington Saturday.
The Seoul government informed the U.S. Department of Justice of its decision last month, according to the diplomat.
The prisoners are among 40 South Korean citizens held in U.S. prisons who say they wish to be relocated to South Korea, citing language, food and cultural differences, the diplomat said.
"It is highly likely that they will be sent back to South Korea, although the U.S. federal government and state governments involved must make the final decision," he was quoted as saying.
South Korea has so far received only one South Korean prisoner from the U.S. since 2005, when it joined the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons to bring back South Korean citizens serving in prisons abroad and to extradite foreign nationals in South Korean prisons.
About 1,400 South Koreans are imprisoned abroad, including 200 in the United States. |

I think that's beautiful. Even in prison they use the same excuses. Except there are two BIG problems:
1. Why go to a DIFFERENT culture if one cannot cope with cultural DIFFERENCES? The very fact that they were living in a different culture presupposes that they had intentions to cope with those differences.
2. If the crimes were comitted against Koreans they couldn't respect cultural similarities between themselves and their victims so why be sent to Korea? |

I have Korean friends who says that homosexuality is non-existent. About 46 million friends, in fact. |

But that friend is under strict orders to spread that misinformation, I'm sure.
What were the crimes committed by these individuals anyways? And why should we care if they aren't being served kimchi with their meals in prison? They still have that Indian Captain in a prison cell not being catered to his cultural or religious needs, so f*** 'em. That last part was directed toward the big scary prisoners behind them. |

Interesting statistic there. How many Native English Teachers are serving sentences in Korea? I'd be astounded if it was anywhere near that number. |

After, but not usually during a sentence. Maybe there are health issues?
Maybe they have political connections? Or maybe it's a "prisoner exchange"? Or just liberals back in power in DC? |
