For those of you who have been in Korea for a long time-
What papers (copies of transcripts, copies of diploma, etc) do you recommend for a new teacher to bring over just in case he/she gets fired, decides to switch schools, or starts looking for a new job after the contract is over?
Are there any papers you had to get in Korea from your home country, which took forever, and made you think "damn, I should have brought these to Korea on my way here?"
Also, I've been hearing a lot about schools or Korean immigration having to get your passport for a short time, is this legit? Is there any excuse for a foreigner not to have their passport on them at all times?
Thanks for any help! |

Bring 8-10 copies of your sealed & signed/stamped transcripts. Bring copies of your original 'diploma' that have been 'notarized'/verified by the embassy/consulate where you get your visa (I think they still do this for a small fee per copy). The criminal record check is only good for six months... so perhaps one extra would save a lot of time/hassle should you need to get a new visa in that time.
Never give your passport to ANYONE except Immigration - who will need it to process your ARC, add multiple entry or extend your period of sojourn should you renew a contract. |
