Has anyone ever shipped packages to the US by boat? (As opposed to air mail, which is way too expensive)
About how long does it take, and how much does it cost?

I want to ship home some clothes, shoes and other things before I leave Korea for good.

Thanks!

5-6 weeks. Depends on the weight of your package but not obscene like airmail or EMS.

You might want to check that because I seem to recall seeing a sign at the post office saying that surface mail to the U.S. had been discontinued.

FYI if it comes down to a shipping company, do NOT use CIL!!
(I'll keep saying it at every opportunity - check my other posts) CIL is a dishonest, disorganized company and they will not take any responsibility for their bullshit.

The post office surface mail on the other hand, 2 thumbs up!!

Seoulsister,

Could you let me know what problems you had with CIL? We were thinking of using them in the future and would like to know what we are getting ourselves into.

I'm happy with Kimchipost so far.......not sure where my boxes are, still in Busan I think. Final outcome will be decided on their arrival.

I didn't realise that SAL is airfreight, but relies on there being space on a plane. So it's not booked. Not sure how much faster this works out, but it's still pretty pricey.
