My SMOE training starts in few weeks (1 week training).
I have few questions and I hope some of you with this experience can help me out.
1. What can I expect in this training?
2. Facility (Hyundai training center)
3. Training programs
4. Time management
and how was the training experience in general??
Thanks!

1. A litany of activities, bad food and a college dorm like atmosphere. Some of the lectures can be helpful as they'll give you resources for lesson plans and helpful hints
2. facility - a compound in the middle of nowhere. Rice at every meal. A small gym and sauna.
3. Create and present your own lesson plan for your age group. Many lectures and powerpoints. |

Food sucks but it's pretty fun. Go hit the town at night and party it up. They said no drinking but it wasn't really enforced when I was there.
The shittiest thing is they try to fill your whole day with the training stuff that isn't really helpful. |

THE WAKE UP CALLS.
They have these terrible wake-up calls at 5:00AM. There are speakers in every room that blast this terrible classical-ish music while this lady does a voice-over in Korean. I swear to god, in my 22 years on this Earth, I have never woken up so angry in all my life. |

No, but that doesn't mean they can't forcefully wake you at such an hour. |

Lots of threads on this, look up "SMOE orientation."
Just last month, we had a conversation about splitting up married couples at orientation and other general acts of disrespect for the new foreign teachers, like the no alcohol rule. Plan ahead, pack a bottle. |
