Like it or hate it, Microsoft has finally decided that it's a colossal failure. Windows 7 (now in beta via free download that works until August 1, 2009) is the best thing since sliced bread (or XP Pro).
Reviews pretty much say that it's wonderful and minimizes all the main annoyances of Vista.
They say not to install it on a PC you need every day.
After July 31st, you'll need to reinstall your prior OS from DVD or CD, or go out and buy Windows 7.

Windows 7 is amazing.
You have to keep in mind that it IS vista. But my god did they clean it up. I'm basically running all the features of Vista ultimate on a laptop that chugged with Vista basic and it's completely smooth. |

Yup. Windows 7 is better, but the IE 8 accompanying it hasn't gotten good reviews (lots of crashes, but it's still in Beta).
Still hate that tool bar change, though. I never wanted some freak combobulation of Linux and Mac for a toolbar. |

IE will always be crap--Chrome all the way.
I like the toolbar, but I'd like them to define the open applications better. |

It's Vista premium with 3gb of ram.
I'm beginning to wonder if the guy at the store might have screwed up an update. |
Pbbly he did.
I bought 5 Computers and installed Vista on each. No problemo. 1MB ram btw.
My wife buys a laptop, 3mb RAM, with Vista pre installed. Doesn't work so nice. |

Some will always struggle with things; no matter how well the pablum is pureed, they choke; no matter how big the letters on the next dot are, they are lost; if the great choices to be made are single or double click, they remain stupefied.
Nothing wrong with Vista past the user.

My Thinkpad X61 tablet came with Vista Home Premium preinstalled, and it's always given me problems. I messed around with Linux for a while, but had to keep going back to Vista for the SINGLE feature it has that Linux doesn't: handwriting recognition.
But my savior came in the form of Virtualbox. Virtualbox is a great open source virtual machine, and with it I installed XP (eff Vista in its effin face), and a cracked version of Vista's Journal, which allows me to run Ubuntu full-time and use my handwriting recog with no problem.
And it's quite funny because Ubuntu 8.04 + XP running at the same time, uses less resources than Vista does just sitting there, clogging up my machine.
Virtualbox FTW!
(I've also heard that Windows 7 runs pretty well on Virtualbox, depending on how well your drivers are supported.) |

| I would think by now MS would do all of us a favor and split the OS into 2 discs .... one disc for a striped down nekkid OS ... no features at all ... no notepad, no freecell, no sidebar ... nuthin' ... just the OS ... and give that baby away for free, then put all the other crap on a 2nd disc and charge stoopit money for that one ... giving the end user the opportunity to install just the features they want and bloat the OS as they see fit .... but that makes too much sense and MS would probably come up with some lame excuse like 'dividing the OS install into 2 discs would take more time to install and bloat the code more than necessary" ... pffffffff. Anyhow, I'm gonna stick w/ my vista x64 ultimate a while longer me thinks....don't see many torrents for windows 7 x64 yet with proven cracks. |

I reckon MS should change their various models of OS from what they did with Vista. Vista had different levels which started from the basic to the ultimate.
It was all based on feature count. Wrong.
They could make each version according to type of user.
User 1. Basic....tech-ignorant...just wants traditional computing needs. Not many options.
User 2. Media....for people who see their PC as a movie and music tool.
User 3. Gamer......nuff said about what this user wants. All bloat should be easily turned off for optimum gaming.
User 4. Business.....extra security and work tools. For people who want a tool for work. |

Does it?
Since, I've got 4 gigs of RAM on my new laptop, I've been tempted to upgrade my Vista Home Premium to Vista x64 or XP 64bit. |

Do you mean 1GB and 3GB RAM?? It's a HUGE difference. |
