Its made me far more paranoid when i see foreigners on the street...and makes me wonder if they are one of the many fucked up weirdo freaks that are found on daves.

It's made me much more pro-American. I wasn't anti-American before, but never actually wanted to visit the country until after a fair amount of interaction with the people on the board.

It's made me realize how unhappy a good number of expats are about living in Korea. Most of the teachers I've met seem to like it here and enjoy being (if not always teaching) in Korea. But after reading through a typical days worth of postings, it's hard to see it that way.
While I still like it here, I have convinced myself to get out of Korea ASAP if I ever find myself feeling anywhere near as negative about Korea as many of the posters here do. And that doesn't just go for Korea. Life's far too short and the world's far too big to be in a place you don't like. Dave's has reinforced that perspective for me.

I haven't been here that long but I find this forum is full of bitter haters. I find some info very helpful, and it's a good place to get some answers to some basic questions, but other than that I pretty much disregard the opinions of everyone here.

I haven't made it to Korea yet.

Those on Dave's have lowered the expectations so greatly of Korea that I can be nothing but pleasantly surprised of life and work there.

Thanks!

- It helped motivate me to quit my first job and get a real one.

- It makes me appreciate my school, principal, co-workers, and students on a daily basis.

- It's kept me abreast of some important developments.

- I've made at least a half-dozen real-life friends I've met here.

I used to be averagely anti-American and became much more pro-American after frequenting discussion boards and talking with people. Not this discussion board though. This was ages ago.

I got laid twice from the first Dave's get together I went to.

I had somebody look at my pic of my floor heating and work out how to make it work.

I am hoping somebody from GEPIK who has had a washing machine break down can tell me if their school paid to have it fixed....

I have read some stuff by some immature culture shocked people, and worked out that they need to let it out somewhere, and here is it.

However I did meet a person IRL who was as bitter and twisted as some of the haters here, and I bet he signs on again... He actually said, "I hate how Koreans generalize about us".

Ive become much more zen and existentialist all at the same time.

I used to wait eagerly for respondents to my posts, checking hourly and daily, and then I became much more a Daves knowing cad and scorned other such virgin newbies, as I used to be. I realize now that I am a small speck of nothing on the back of a nothingness...much more zen. Ive become much closer to the infinite thanks to Daves. Thanks, Dave! Very Happy

Ha ha - I met Korussian when I was in Thailand. We ended up going on the same tour.

'Oh, so you live in Korea'?

'Yeah, me too, blah blah blah blah...'

''blah blah blah blah Dave's ESL blah blah blah blah...'

'Oh, are you on Dave's'?

'Yeah, you too'?

[pause while we both hesitate to share our usenames ... finally he bravely offers his and, unable to think of ever offending him, offer him mine]

It turned out he's a really nice and interesting guy. It was fun to spend the day with him.
