How can anyone take Eastern Civilization seriously when you can't buy meth, a gun, or a triple cheeseburger in most towns in the East?

I wish this was the case. Meth is scarily so widely available in much of 'the East'. Far too many of my Indonesian friends are meth users Sad

Wow, you obviously do not know a great deal of history. Perhaps if you read a little into China's long history, for example, you wouldn't make such ill-informed statements as this.

Thanks for the insult. Thanks also for giving NO evidence to back up your silly claims. China's long proud history??? Are you in China right now?? Perhaps they're forcing you at gunpoint to type this nonsense?!

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here, so I'll reiterate. The apex of human achievements have been brought upon by the western world. If the entire world would have been historically Chinese, we'd be living in the 16th century. But we'd have kungfu and firecrackers.

Isn't it funny if this discussion was being done during the 15th century, it would be the exactly same debate just with the East and West switched?

The East - ie. China and the Mongols and the Arab culture, would be talking about how superior is their culture is compared to the West, that was consumed in its religious frenzy, ie. Spanish Inquisition. We'd be discussing how the primitive army of the West fell so easily to the advanced military might of the Mongol hordes.

The hegemony isn't set in stone for all eternity. It had been shifting for ages and the pattern will continue. All sons and daughters of different cultures should learn to be humble, in knowing that their place is only a flashing moment in the history that is a violent current.

Interesting angle and words of wisdom.

However we are not having this discussion in the "15th century"; we're having it now. And we should all agree that the technological/ sociopolitical achievements of the western world = the best quality of life humanity has ever known. Without Europe's progression of the past 500 years, we'd surely be in the dark ages. I am irked upon meeting hippies who do not appreciate this.
