|

Yeah,
I cut my toe slightly while trimming my toenails, and it's gotten infected.
I've been putting on an ointment that some non-English-speaking pharmacist gave me this summer when I had a similar thing happen (thanks to the July monsoon rains, it was next to impossible to keep a cut on one's foot dry and clean).
I'm just wondering how long it takes to go through a hospital . . . and if I go there, would they give me antibiotics?
I'm from Canada, so I'm used to long line-ups . . . I've got about an hour after work today . . . otherwise, I might just wait until tomorrow --- but I'd like to get this dealt with ASAP. |

Go to a 내과. I think that's either general practice or internal medicine (thinking internal medicine) but it's usually the first place you could go to. There's usually a couple in a shopping plaza. There is virtually no wait time (maybe 10 minutes tops). You'll be in and out. Not sure if they would give you antibiotics - I would assume so since toe infections are bad news. |

Get it taken care of before it goes gangrene or something unfortunate like that. The waits arent that bad for foreigners. |

I would seriously recommend you get it checked out if its infected. When I was in high school, there was one guy I remember who had an infected toe but he never had it looked at because his family was kind of poor, and he also said he was afraid the doctors would amputate it. Anyways it started out as oozing puss, but a few months later the skin of his toe turned black. that was really disgusting. |

PLEASE go to a hospital. I had an infected finger that caused me to get blood poisoning (red line went up my arm). It wouldn't be too difficult for you to suffer the same.
Bring your health insurance card if you have one. Just drop in... can be a little freaky as a waygook (especially the first time) but you need to get it over with. |

I dunno.. just barely cut it slightly, sounds like no problem.. our bodies healed themselves for millions of years, don't need some quack doctor to help you |

So tetanus and gangrene didn't appear until modern medicine?
Go see the doc. |

Yeah and we had life expectancies of 30 odd years as a result of our bodies trying to heal themselves. |

can I put in an obvious response??
USE YOUR COMMON SENSE?
nobody else will know your body like you do. You will know what feels "right" and what doesn't and you should know when a condition is worsening and it's time to see a doctor.
if you don't, well you're a candidate for the Darwin Awards.
by "infected" it's hard to say whether it's minor or major (you should know!) - try using a topical over the counter antibiotic like Neosporin (I brought my own supply from US just in case).. don't know if you can get it here.
and monitor it very carefully! .. if no improvement, or certainly if it gets worse, get your ass to a a quack's office ASAP! |

Okay, I was debating on going to a doctor or not for myself. I think I have ringworm. It some kind of fungus that grow on the skin. I'm a very clean person and have no idea how I got it. Maybe from one of my students that seem to refuse to use soap after they use the bathroom. Anyways, I need to get some ani-fungal cream or something.
Should I go to a doctor? Is there something I could get a local shop? How do you ask for anti-fungal cream or shampoo at the pharmacy? Any help of suggestions is appreciated. |

Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride). I`m not sure if it`s prescription only here or not. |

Thanks I'll try to look for it. Do you know if a Korean pharmacist will know what it is if I hand it to him written down? I'm not sure if it would be called something else in Korean. |

the Terbinafine hydrochloride is the chemical name. If he doesnt know it by it`s chemical name then he`s not a really good pharmacist. |

This online question of, "Should I go see a doctor?" is unnerving!!
Jesus people!! Grow up and sort yourselves out!
If you have to ask, you probably do.
Generally once you get by the giggly front desk and nursing staff the doc. will muster up some English for you. Sheeeessh! |
