|
|
Ive posted my resume and the response is overwhelming. I dont know who to trust and which agency to use when finding a job. I did go to graduate school, but have not finished my thesis. I'm not sure if that will get me any points in terms of experience. However, what is a good contract in terms of:
1. pay
2. vacation/sick days
3. teaching hours
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, |

Are you looking at hakwons, public schools or universities? That will make a difference in the answers.
1. The average pay seems to be around W2.3 million or so lately. There was an article the other day about hakwons raising pay to attract teachers from the public schools.
2. Universities offer much more in vacation time. Other places offer 10-14 days.
3. Public schools run 22 teaching hours a week; hakwons usually 30 hours. Universities as low as 8 or so.
The newspapers say the demand for teachers is greater than the supply. The government is trying to get a native speaker into every school. Right now is winter break with the public schools starting up again in a couple of weeks. This is prime hiring time.
Your first step should be sitting down and thinking hard about what age level of students you want to work with. Once that is clear to you, you can focus on where (big city, medium city, small city, country town) you want to live. Hakwons, public schools and universities/colleges are available in all the different city sizes.
I suggest you post those two decisions here, then people can give you advice about how to get that kind of job. |

I think I would prefer a public school or university in a larger city because of the hours and vacation time. I'm not sure I have the qualifications to teach at a UNI with my lack of experience.
I prefer working with children. But obviously wouldnt mind teaching others if offered a UNI position.
Thanks for you help |
