The OP sounds like one of those backpacker types who spends most of his/her time haggling with Thai's for a cheap deal and slagging off other tourists. If the image of mongering offends your sensibility so much why not go somewhere where it isn't in your face. Hippies should not be allowed to travel |
Well you obviously don't know me.
And while my haggling skills are decent I often accept payiong a little bit more cause I know a few bucks here and there will do less harm for me and actually benifit someone else.
And when I actually really haggle someone down I do sometimes feel bad about it.
So yeah, you don't really know me.
But I am certainly a judgemental person. I like to call people out from time to time, but at the same time I'm quite real with myself and constantly question my actions.
And really then Western men who come to this part of the world solely for sexual pleasure are total losers. I feel totally comfortable in saying that and I can pretty much tell that there are likely posters on this thread who can fit into this category.
Finally, I'm not a hippy, but let's be real. many of them started this whole notion of international travel. Sh-it, the whole tourism trade in SEA was largly built on the hippies of the 60s and 70s. |

I actually just spent the last 8 days in Patong, Phuket and the whole sex tourism thing didnt really bother me that much. Now I'm not one to partake in it, as my personal moral code would never allow me to pay directly for sex. And all morals aside, the health factors also come into play and its just not worth it imho.
But as far as others partaking in all that patong had to offer, I wasnt offended in the least. He's legal, she's legal, he's consenting, she's consenting. I dont see a problem with it really, as long as both are willing to risk any potential consequences than have at it. If anything I found the whole 50yr old bald, fat white guy, with some skinny, fairly young, decent looking and scantly clad woman on his arm all rather humourous! I was neither disgusted nor repulsed by it really, just live and let live.
The only time things got to me was when I was dancing in one of the nightclubs and having some cute SEA girls grinding up against me and thinking your all there to have fun and then her pulling you aside and asking you for payment for dancing. Thats the only time things bothered me. I never had any intention to engage in that industry, but I guess I had that situation comming by choosing an area that is notorious for its sex industry.
C'est la vie. |
I sounds like a place like Krabbi or Phi Phi island would be more your scene. The beaches are much nicer.
As far as the girls doing the dirty dancing. It's still less annoying and better value for money than the guy who camps out in the washroom with a wet rag expecting a tip. |

Yea, next time I go I think I'll actually be spending more time in the northern parts of thailand and then comming down for my last 3 days or so and soaking up the sun on the beaches. I really liked Patong dont get me wrong, its just after 8 days there it was a bit to touristy for me, less time would be better. But when I was surrounded by the aussie friends I made in Patong (and wow I never expected to see so many aussies) the nightlife was absolutely amazing. I guess less would just be better in this case, but all in all I would definately go back to patong, especially now that I am really familiar with the area, and next time just avoid the situations that caused a slight annoyance next time. |

And northern Thailand isn't going to be touristy?
Get off the tourist path, get out to Tak or Loei or Mukdahan. |

If you go to Isarn you'll have a good chance of meeting ladies who would userwise end up in the industry. These ladies are fresh off the farm and have yet to be currupted by the bar scene. |

When I was in Indonesia, I saw an old white guy in his seventies with a little Indonesian girl who was probably eight or nine years old. Now she very well could have been his granddaughter, but since we know that a good amount of sex trafficking goes on there, it was hard to believe it, and hard not to feel rather sick about it.
Either way, when you see something like this, you are going to get in touch with how you feel about things like this. If it breaks your heart, congratulations, you are a compassionate human being.

So you assumed he was a sex tourist.
You sir are a knobber of the highest proportions.
I hope one day someone repays the favor to you when you are walking around with one of your kids. |

That would be Ma'am, not sir, and I'l admit that I did not know the exact nature of the relationship between the old man and the little girl, but the mere possibility of it being a case of sex slavery, is heartbreaking.
So get off of your "non-judgemental" high horse and bite me! |

So why did you not call the police if you were so concerned?
Or contact the relevant organization that you linked in your initial post.
Bite you?
Wouldn't want to catch any of the bitterness you appear to have. |

They are losers, there are no doubts about it.
There's something I don't like though. The chicks with the losers always get snubbed by everyone like they are prostitutes or mud. There are a couple of Canadian loser men who married decent Filipina women in my hometown. Basically the women are shunned by everyone. I feel so sorry for them.
Fcking loser men piss me off. They only care about their saggy old dicks. |

By the same token, please describe why the "Canadian men" are losers? |

This is bollocks *beep* Mongers as they prefer to be labeled come in all shapes and sizes. They are not just fat balding old men. They also come from every Nationality and every Religion. Also for every Monger there is an equal amount of happily married couples who can easily be confused with being a monger w
Here's one of the common misconceptions. It's not the white ladies who are rejecting these men. It's the men who are rejecting the white ladies. Or the same ladies have found greener pastures in Jamaca. |
