I'm thinking of canceling my cell phone anyway, as my contract is over and I want to cut expenses. I do hate to lose my phone number, to risk losing touch with someone who only can contact me that way. When you go abroad do you give up your cell or carry the same number and contract, etc.?

You can pay a minimum monthly fee to shut down your phone, but keep the # and account open and then re-activate when you come back. I don't remember how much it costs, but it is minimal.

I'm just suspending my phone while I'm gone...at no cost. The only thing is, they will only suspend it for 3 months at a time, so I have to call to resuspend every 3 months. I will still have my # when I get back.

I would think that if someone hasn't called you in all this time while your phone is suspended, they're not worth keeping touch with. Why not just get a new number?

if you don't use it for 3 months it just will just de-activate itself. But you can re-activate the # when you return as long as it's registered in your name.

What are the proper measures to completely cancel one's cellphone? I'm on a monthly contract at the moment and don't plan on coming back. Do you have to visit the head offices or can you simply call them to cancel. Please help! Thanks!
